A few thoughts come to my mind about the chatacteristics of a True Guru.

The signs of a true Guru are absence of ego or selfishness, absolute selflessness, large- heartedness, purity in living, abscence of envy, and equal-mindedness(samadarsathwam) in his conduct towards everyone. He ,who"can raise the Sishya to his level is a true Guru", says Bhagawan Sathya sai Baba. Freedom from envy is an essential quality both in the Guru as well as the Sishya, as envy is the root cause of many evils.

Really speaking, the Guru`s role is to lead his Sishya in the path leading towards God. The Guru should teach the sishya as to the true purpose for which the sense organs have been given by the creator. Baba says, " all the senses are to be used for discovering and experiencing the Divine". A true Guru should have experienced the Divine himself and should live in that experience only. A true Guru should be an embodiment of Spirituality, should have mastered Brahmavidya and should have no traces of materialism and negative tendencies in him. It is difficult to find true Gurus of the likes of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa or Ramana Maharishi. The one living Guru who meets the above -mentioned qualities is Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. How fortunate are we to be born at a time when the Avatar is still amidst us in human form.

How to Recognize a Perfect Master"You will never be able to understand thoroughly how great Sai Babais. He is the very personification of perfection. If you know Him asI know Him, you would call Him the Master of Creation" - Meher Baba(1894 - 1969)Meher Baba said that when a sincere and patient seeker of Truthcomes into contact with one who is spiritually perfect, he wouldobserve certain outer signs that are inseparably associated withinner spiritual perfection. The most important of these signs arethree: firstly, Perfection is not only "Oneness with God," but alsothe continual and uninterrupted experience of "Oneness ineverything." A Perfect Master continually, without break, experiences and realizes his own Self as the Self in all. This innerexperience objectively manifests itself in the spontaneity of lovethat such a one feels or expresses towards all Creation. To

himnothing is attractive or repulsive. Good and bad, saint and sinner, beauty and ugliness, wisdom and idiocy, health and disease -- allare modes of his own manifestation. When embodied Perfection loves, fondles or feeds any living creature, it feels and enjoys as if itwere loving, fondling and feeding its own Self. In this stage novestige of "otherness" is left. The second sign is the atmosphere of bliss that Perfection radiatesin its immediate vicinity, an atmosphere that a stranger in searchof it cannot help feeling. A Perfect Master not only enjoys infinitebliss but also experiences universal suffering. The acuteness ofsuffering however is nullified or subdued by the overwhelmingfeeling of bliss. Hence Perfection can outwardly appear blissfullycalm in the face of every kind of suffering and persecution. The third sign of Perfection is its power to adapt itself to anylevel of humanity.

It can be as nonchalant on a throne as in agutter. It can very naturally be thrifty with the poor, extravagantwith the rich, regal with kings, wise with the learned and simplewith the illiterate and the ignorant. Just as a Maser of Lettersteaches English in different ways to beginners and graduatestudents, so also a Perfect Master adapts himself to the level ofthose whom he wants to uplift spiritually.Sadguru Sainath is the foremost of the Perfect Masters Meher Babaresorted to during his quest to seek realization. Meher Baba, agreat Yogi himself, felt that if one knows Sainath as he had knownhim, he/she would accept Him to be the Master of the Creation.Sainath of Shirdi is the rarest of such Perfect Masters who isperfect in and out.Baba is every where just feel him and keep on saying `Om Sai Ram' to whom so ever you meet.OM SAI SRI SAI JAI JAI SAI!!! Let us pray at the lotus feet of

Bhagwan Baba who is the incarnation of all gods and protector of all, to show mercy on us, and increase our devotion towards himJai Sai RamSwamy MahadevanBow to Shri Sai-Peace be to allBaba Bless you ever!!!
