Guest guest
What is death? "Death" in common parlance is understood as end of life, the permanent cessation of vital bodily functions such as loss of heartbeat and pulsebeat, the abscence of spontaneous breathing and brain death etc. etc. Death is the only factor most feared and dreaded by all living beings. Is there anyone who says I want to die? All human beings want to live as long as possible. After the function of the body is over in a particular life cycle, it is but inescapable that mrithyu(death) of the body has to occur. It is an inevitable factor of life. All beings are none other than that Brahman-Atman( PURE CONSCIOUSNESS) but on account of ignorance, most of us consider ourselves as limited and a jiva. Hence we undergo the cycle of births and deaths--" Punarapi Jananam Punarapi Maranam" and are subject to the Samsarachakram. Most of the Upanishads talk of Amrutatwam or deathlessness. I would pray for Birthlessness, for If I am birthless I am also deathless. Death involves the separation of the soul( Sukshma Sarera and Karana Sareera) from the Gross Body(Sthula Sareera). All the sorrows of jivas come from the body . A realized person has no fear of death because he identifies himself with the all-pervasive immortal Atman. The highest philosophy in India starts with the subject of death. If we study the Katopanishad, Bhagawad Geeta and the Chandogya Upanishad we can understand death better. Death is a call to reflect and seek the goal of Truth, the Eternel Brahman. G.Balasubramanian Talk is cheap. Use Messenger to make PC-to-Phone calls. Great rates starting at 1¢/min.
