Kanishk, You cannot really 'read' Rig Ved mantras. You would have to learn them from a shrotriya/guru. There are a limited set of Vedic mantras which many of us chant without training but chanting Rig Ved mantras would require a guru. Anyway, this is just my opinion and you are the best judge. Generally speaking, even listening to Vedic mantras has a positive impact on the person due to divine vibrations in them. For e.g. if you listen to Arunam with shraddha on a Sunday morning after taking bath and before consuming food, it will improve your health. Here is a link to Arunam (praise of the Sun God)

namo narayana

Respected devotee,

The most infallible mantram is ashtakshari manthram "(pranavam) namO nArAyanA".

It is considered a part of the Rahasyathrayam (three secrets), it is to be recieved from an Acharyan through upadesam and then only chanted for its effect.

However all can chant simply nArAyanA without any restrictions.

Another very powerful stotram is the Sri Vishnu Sahasranaamam which was given by Sri Bhismacharya to King Yudhishtira in Kurukshetra before leaving his body. Sri Bhisma tells the glory of Sri Vishnu Sahasranaamam which is sufficient to destroy all negative impulses and sins.

With my personal experience, daily listening and/or recitation of Sri Vishnu Sahasranaamam has changed my life for the better.

Sincerely,

Kamlesh--- On Fri, 6/12/09, S.Undley[Om Namah Shivaya] <suru_1980 wrote:

Daer Devotee,Apart from 'OM NAMO NARAYANAAYA' , the Mantra " OM NAMO BHAGAVATE VASUDEVAAYA" can also be chanted. If you know Naraayana Sooktam or Narayana Upanishad you may chant them. Ramanama is equally good, since Lord Rama was an avatar of Vishnu. This being Kaliyuga the best mantra is "HARE RAMA HARE RAMA RAMA RAMA HARE HARE, HARE KRISHNA HARE KRISHNA KRISHNA KRISHNA HARE HARE". This Mantra has been taken from Kalisantarana Upanishad.G.BalasubramanianVeryytterium <veryytterium Sent: Friday, June 12, 2009 1:17:42 PMRe: Re: what is Main Mantra for Lord Vishnu

Dear Friends,Chanting the name of Narayana 16 times before commencement of reading Narayaneeyam or Srimad Bhagavatam is the practice in Kerala and by Keralites throughout the globe. Even when they read the 'Dasakam' on Srikrishna Jananam( Birth of Lord Krishna) the name Narayana is chanted 16 times at the end of the sloka referring to birth of Lord Krishna. And this is followed by an interpolation of 4 slokas from Srimad Bhagavatam starting with "Tamadbhutam".Before commencement of travel, one should"Vanamalai gadi sarngi sankhi chakricha Nandaki Srimaan Narayanao Vishnu Vasudevobhirakshatu" and Apadaam Apahartaram Dhataram sarvasampadaam lokabiramam Sriramam Bhooyo Bhooyo namaamyaham".G.BalasubramanianPRADEEP <srividyanand Sent: Sunday, June 14, 2009 2:22:23 PM Re: what is Main Mantra for Lord Vishnu
