It presents before the attention, one source after another of temporary pleasure; it does not allow any interval for you to weigh the pros and cons. When hunger for food is appeased, it holds before the eye of the attraction of the film, it reminds the ear of the charm of music, and it makes the tongue water for the pleasant taste of something that it craves for. The wish becomes very soon the urge for action, the urge soon gathers strength, and the yearning becomes uncontrollable. The burden of desires gradually becomes too heavy and man gets dispirited and sad. Train the mind to turn towards the intelligence for inspiration and guidance, not towards the senses for adventures and achievements. That will make it an instrument for reducing your vagaries, and saving your time and energy for vital matters. A person is made or marred by the company he/she keeps. A bad man who falls into good company is able to shed his evil habits quickly and shine forth in virtue. A good person falling into evil company is overcome by the subtle influence and slides down into doing evil. The lesser is overpowered by the greater, hence be watchful at all times. Guest guest
Dear Mitulpatelji, Bhakti is eternal. At the outset I must make it clear that the discourses are from Bhagavan Sathya Sai Baba and I am only a tool in forwarding them to follow the divine messages. As such I am incompetent to make any interpretations on them. The clarification sought for by you is very simple. Not that you are unaware. But you expresses. Why? It is the will of Baba that I should make it clear. HE wants to know whether this fellow is actually reading the discourses or simply forwarding them to devotees. So I am bound to answer. It is the orders of my guru Paramacharya that I should not fail or fear to express any thing and every thing which I know and help others. I am, therefore, giving you the following clarification: There is a saying that ‘man is made of environments’. That is the reason all parents and elders advise the children to be always in good company. Though the child possesses good character, he/she will get spoiled by the bad company. Good habits are always makes the person to lead peaceful life, where as the evil habits spoils the entire life. As such, good is greater than evil. For example take good as milk and bad as poison. If we take one barrel of milk and mix one drop of poison, can we drink the milk? Which is lesser here? The Barrel or the drop? The drop is more powerful to spoil the huge quantity of milk and therefore the drop of poison is greater. The lesser is overpowered by the greater, hence be watchful at all times. So Bhagavan is cautioning us not to yield to the evil. Is it clear my brother? I owe much to you for giving the opportunity of making a clarification on Bhagavan’s discourse and I take it as His will and the orders of my guru.
