Vibhuthi , the sacred ash , is nothing but ash made out of pure cowdung on sivaratri day.

It represents symbolically that in this world of MAYA nothing remains finally except ASH.ASH cannot be burnt and turned into anything else.

Vibhuthi is made powerful by reciting mantras and also by offering to the LORD.

Saint THIRUGNANASAMBANDAR, one who got the GYAN MILK from LORDESS

PARVATHI herself, and is reincarnation of LORD KARTHIK(MURUGAN) cured the

INCURABLE STOMACH PAIN of the PANDYA KING using the VIBHUTHI and reciting

self composed TEN COUPLETS starting with MANTARAM AAVATHU NEERU which means

VIBHUTHI is THE MANTRA, etc etc praising the SUPREME NATURE of VIBHUTHI

and the king is cured. Infact it was a test between JAINISM and HINDUISM in those

days. Even today many add power to the VIBUTHI and gives it as a medicine to

apply on body parts and also to drink water in which a little of vibuthi is added.

its enough if they are supplied in traces thro surface of skin  at intervals.

They have a far reaching effects on genetics and well being of life force.

Cattle gracing on green fields are likely to ingest these nutrients thro grass and weeds ,passing dung as excreta again recycled as ash and supplied to man ..not  to all!?

Given a religious tint it goes to the needy in time!

Dear all, I have one question to ask. Why do we apply vibhuti?  We see in temple priests apply vibhuti to forehead, three places in the arms(top, middle and end of arm)  and chest. Whats is the reason behind it. Is there any effect of this on the human body.

Also i have seen in some places people apply sandalwood to their right ear. whats the reason? pls clarify.Regards,Y. Hemanth Kumar
