Guest guest
In the SIVA PANCHAKSHARI stotra it starts with the word “nAgEndrahArAya’. What is the interpretation, how it is to be understood. “He with a garland of the king of nAga. This is the word meaning. To have a snake garland in the neck is not a big thing. We can see so many people wearing snake in their neck now a days. So to have a snake in the neck even if it is not so common, it is not uncommon and therefore it is not a big thing. But when it is in the neck of Siva, it cannot be a common thing. (this little posting below, if one carefully goes thru, the method of studying the purAnAs can be understood) Let us see what it is now. “naaga†the first word. “na†+ “a†+ “ga†‘ga’ means ‘ gaman, gati, (go = moving) (the word go in English must have derived from ‘ga’ in Sanskrit – let’s leave it to the historians) ‘a’ = no , negative (e.g. asathya ) ‘ga’ = gati, ‘a’ means ‘no’, ‘gati’ means moving, ‘aga’ means not moving, ‘agati’, means, which is not having ‘gati’ ‘na’ means no, (negative). (the word no in english must have derived from the Sanskrit word ‘na’) Thing in which both ‘ga’ or gati (movement) and ‘agati’ (non-movement) is having, that is vakragati means which is having positive and negative movement. Thing in which ‘a-gati’ and ‘na-gati’ is having, it is vakragati, means a cyclical rotation, means clockwise and anticlockwise rotation. (you may remember the cyclic movement of electrons and protons around molecules.). So, that having a cyclic rotation, that having a positive rotation and having a negative rotation that is vakragati. This vakragati is the spandan or parispandan. (kambana and prakambana) nirguNa saguNaScheti Sivojneya sanAthanam nirguNa prakruthE nanya saguNa samatha smrutha (pramAN) ‘indra’ means king, lord, super etc. nAgEndra means king of nAga. It is not sarpa or kobra. (snake). (kindly do not equate English words to Sanskrit words. It will be a blunder.), nAga is different and cobra/sarpa is different. ‘sarpaaNamasmi vAsukim ananthaScha nAgAnAm ‘ says Lord Krishna in the VibhUtiyoga to Arjuna in Gita. In sarpas, I am vAsuki and in nAgas, I am anantha. This means sarpa and naaga is not one and same. Otherwise no need for bhagwan to say so to Arjuna. This means what is there in the neck of Siva as garland, it is Lord himself, it is the supreme Bodha itself, it is the self, it is the blissful consciousness. Sarpa is seen ‘on the earth’ and nAgAs are seen ‘below the earth’ . Vishnu lays on the nAga anantha and Siva wears the nAga , anantha. ‘indra’ means the king, lord. nAgEndra means the king of nAga, means the supreme of nAgas. ‘hAr’ means, 1. maala or garland 2. more than one or innumerable. 3. failure ( pareeksha mai haar gaya) . Here the meaning is ‘jisne maala dhaaran kiya ho’ ‘haaraaya†means he who wore the hAr, the ‘maala’ , the garland. ‘hArAya’ means, he who wears it, he who wore it. Jisne Dhaaran kiya ho voh. To summarise the theme - When there is a movement to both opposite directions on an equal speed, one can feel a static state, a NO-MOVEMENT state. E.g. when we look at a high-speed motor, fan etc we feel that the motor is not having motion, not rotating. Due to high speed revolving of earth, we get a static feeling. Here the movement of motor is visible and the movement of earth is not visible. Therefore the rotation of motor is felt as static. What is visible is positive and non visible is negative but both are movements, both are truths. Here, one movement, the visible, is the past and the other movement is invisible which is the future. In fact both are not there now as both are not felt as moving. Past is the one which is already over and therefore it is not there now, and therefore it is untrue. The future has not happened yet, as nobody has experienced it, and it is not there now, and so it is also untrue. Thus both the past and the future are clubbed, are converged in the present. Thus what is true is the present. What is true is the vartamaan. Those who understand that only present is there, those who is able to club or converge the past and future in the present, stay in the present, live in the present, who is able to wear the present, remain continuously in the present, who is able to understand that past and future culminates in the present, the bhUtha and bHavishya is in the bHavat, nAgEndrahArAya, and that is the Siva tathwa, Siva principle. Thus, the supreme who has knowledge that there is no past and there is no future but only the present is existing, those who is living in the present, the Atma, the bOdha, the consciousness, one who is able to be always in his enlightened spirit, he is nAgEndrahArAya. This is very shortest definition. It needs personal face to face exchange of words along with bhAva. Actually it is Shruti and not smruti. Then only such things can be understood in its perspective, for which it is meant, otherwise it will create or bring wrong notions, wrong conclusions. One more thing; though it is called as panchakshary, actually it is shad akshary (6 letters) because the praNava ( OOOMMM) has to be prefixed to five letters Na Ma Si Va Ya to become a mantra and then it is shad akshari mantra. But normally called as panchakshary. In case you get a bit of above, I will consider that you have lot of PUNYA and I have the blessings of my parents.
