If you understand the meaning of the word lingam in Sanskrit you will understand why. However we should make clear this _does_not_mean_ they cannot offer worship. Only that they shouldn't touch. If you do panchamrta abhisheka you probably already have a jaladhari with stand. If not get one as your wife can then offer the abhisheka without contact. For other upacharas, a long spoon can be used. But here's an even better idea. Why not ensure that you always do the puja together? That way you can do any parts that require touching but your wife can still fully participate. In these days when even in India there are so many family problems, what better way to ensure a happy marriage then to unite for the worship of shri Mahadeva who Himself contains Mataji as His left half? > I(my Brother) have been Gifted Parad Shivling by a Shiv Sadhna Kendra > From Navsari Can i have two Shiv lings at my home and Worship one that > i brought fom Somanath Ji and One Parad ShivLing as gifted to me by > the Institute. Again according to shastras, there should only be one Shivalinga in a home. Of the two, you should prefer the Parad one as that is Shankar Bhagavans svayambhu svarup. -- Jaldhar H. Guest guest
> Yes mr Vysa you can have two shiv lingas Gujarati prayoga books include the following shlokas: gR^ihe li~ngadvayaM nArchyaM gaNeshatritayaM tathA | sha~nkhadvayaM tathA suryau nArchyau shaktitrayaMtathA || dve chakre dvArakAyashcha shAligrAmashilAdvayam | teShAM tu pUjanenaiva udvegaM prApnuyAdgR^ihI || The upshot is you should worship only one Shivalinga, Shaligrama, Surya murti, shankha, or chakra, and only upto two Ganesh or Shakti murtis. But I did not find a source for this. One book only says " smR^ityantare " which is not very helpful. So perhaps it is a local tradition not a hard and fast rule of shastras? In any case as both Sunilbhai and myself are Gujaratis we should follow our time-honored parampara. -- Jaldhar H. Vyas <jaldhar
