Guest guest
Never talk about the faults of others, no matter how bad they may be. Nothing is ever gained by that. You never help one by talking about his fault; you do him an injury, and injure yourself as well. - Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda, Volume 6, Page 127I have always liked the simple depth of Swami Vivekananda's words. Though as with most of his discourses you must take it in relation to the rest of his message. To speak is to give a name to something and to name something is to give it power. Words are not simply language with which to convey ideas and such. They should be seen as something that is living and having their own energy. In fact, words are vibrations of the vocal cords in the throat and as a sound wave carry scientifically identifiable energy and patterns. In saying that by speaking negative things of others you injure yourself, it might be taken as meaning your words themselves call this negativity into your environment by displacing their energy that becomes manifest once spoken and vibrating. Also it ties into his core message of work and charity towards all peoples no matter how deserving or undeserving they may be one should show them kindness regardless...Kishore Puvvada <pkishore Sent: Sunday, March 1, 2009 8:47:26 PM What are the multiple options we have with the choice of words? What are the multiple options we have with the choice of words? Why is it important to use the tongue after making this choice at every moment? The tongue must be sanctified by the repetition of the Names of the Lord. It must also be used to use sweet expressions which will spread contentment and joy. Be very careful about your speech. Animals have horns, insects have stings, beasts have claws and fangs, but man's biggest weapon of offence is his tongue. The wounds that the tongue can inflict can scarcely be healed; they fester in the heart for long. They are more capable of damage than even an atom bomb. The name has much efficacy. Use the tongue to repeat the Name of the Lord and His attributes. - Divine Discourse, July 29, 1964. Never talk about the faults of others, no matter how bad they may be.
