Guest guest
Om Namah Sivaya Sundarar flourished in the 8th century. He was a great devotee of Lord Siva. He is one of the Saiva Samaya Acharyas (four great Saivite religious Teachers) in South India . He lived only Eighteen years. He sang the glories of Lord Siva at all the sacred places that he visited. These hymns are called Thevaram. They have been collected into a book-form. All devotees sing the Thevaram even today. In his previous incarnation Sundarar was Alala Sundarar , who was an ardent devotee of Lord Siva. Once when Alala Sundarar was living by the side of Lord Siva in the Mount Kailas , serving the Lord and bringing flowers from the garden for His worship, he cast a lustful look at Aninditi and Kamalini, the attendants of Goddess Parvathi who had also gone to the garden to collect flowers for the divine Mother’s worship. They, too, fell in love with him. Lord Siva, through His divine vision, understood all that had happened in the garden. He called Alala Sundarar and said: ‘Sundarar, since you fell in love with these girls, you and they, too, will go down to the earth and take a human birth. You will marry them and enjoy the pleasures of the world.’ Sundarar wept bitterly, regretting his folly which had resulted in his separation from the Lord. He prayed to the Lord: ‘Oh Lord! It is due to my evil thought that I have to undergo this separation from Thee. I am afraid lest I should be steeped in ignorance and forget Thee. Oh Lord of mercy! Let this not happen to me. Oh Lord of compassion! Dispel my ignorance soon and take me back to Your lotus feet.’ Lord Siva granted this wish. There was another cause for Sundarar’s human birth. To an ordinary man it may appear that Sundarar was a victim to lust, even in the divine realm of Kailasa. It was not so. Sundarar was only an instrument in the hands of God. It was Lord Siva’s wish that Sundarar should sing Tiru Thonda Thogai (songs to glorify Great Devotees of Lord Siva) for the benefit of mankind. So, Lord Siva entered his mind and created a desire for these two girls. Also, the Lord wanted to teach mankind a great lesson. Lust is extremely powerful. It can delude even a great devotee of the Lord like Sundarar, if he is not ever vigilant. Maya’s charms are powerful. Unless this evil quality is burnt, the Jiva CANNOT reach Siva. Yet another lesson. The lustful eye was the cause of Sundarar’s downfall. But, when it is used in the service of the Lord (for looking at the holy shrines, holy images of God, saints, and study of scriptures) the very same organ will help towards our emancipation. Tirumantiram by Rishi Tirumular Verse 1949 : Conservation of Sex Energy Vital for Yoga Practice Thus conserved, they light the Fire of Kundalini,And forcing it upward through Nadi SushumnaReach the state of illumination; There they partake of the ambrosiaFrom the Moon within flows; Those who do this in unbroken continuity,Are verily Siva Yogins true. Verse 1950: Conserve Sex Energy and Become HeroesThe Yogi, the Jnani, and the Siddha highThe Bhoga Yogi who is yet the king of Jnanis,All these, though troubled by passionsYet savour the ambrosia within; (in the Yogic way)Heroes, all, they are indeed,Who the Bindu had conserved. Commentary: The yogi, the jnani, the the siddhar high and bhoga-yogi, who is yet the king of jnanis, are real heroes; because, though they were troubled and tempted by passions, they resolved to taste the ambrosia within in the yogic way. Verse 1952: In Yoga Bindu is Divinely AssimilatedIn ignorance the folks waste it daily,And destroyed by senses, in pain weep;If in wisdom, they conscious perform Yoga supreme,The Bindu disppears, divinely assimilated. Commentary: Ignorant folks destroy bindu in vain daily. But if in wisdom they perform supreme yoga, bindu is divinely assimilated. So, refrain from lust, for it is death’s messenger. Preserve bindu. Then you will enjoy the divine light for ages and ages to come, remaining free from impurities. Verse 1937: Siva Yogi Sublimates Bindu Do not look at womenWho intent on lust look at you;Away from them;Light the fire of Kundalini;Melt your heart in divine love;Uproot the evil desire that sight kindles;Fix it on the source of Primal EnergyHe who does it is verily the Siva Yogi. Commentary: Do not indulge in lust. Light the kundalini fire and melt your heart in intense devotion. Eradicate the base desires that sight kindles. Concentrate on the source of primal energy. Truly, the Siva yogi sublimates bindu in this way. Verse 1938: Waste Not BinduHe to lust a slave becomes,Will in constant fear be;His body deteriorates,And his life ebbs away;He will not Grace receive,And in Siva Yoga lasts not. Commentary: He who falls a prey to lust is forever in fear. His body deteriorates. He will not receive Grace, or reach Siva yoga. Guest guest
Dear Shilendraji, I am not an expert on Kundalini but I have read a book an excellent book on Kundalini Shakti and Kundalini Yoga by Swami Satyananda Saraswati (Desciple of Swami Sivananda ) the book is called "Kundalini Tantra", This book is published by Bihar School of Yoga. Swami Satyananda mentions that Kundalini Jagruti done using Kundalini Yoga or Pranayama should always be monitored by a Guru, because these two ways are quick and might lead into problems, the only safe way is Mantra Sadhana but Mantra Sadhana is a slow and steady process. That book is very good, it has mentioned all the details on Bindu and Kundalini. hope this helps, Om Namah Shivaya, Divakar. --- On Thu, 1/8/09, bhatnagar_shailendra <bhatnagar_shailendra wrote: bhatnagar_shailendra <bhatnagar_shailendra Re: Power of Lust Date: Thursday, January 8, 2009, 12:49 PM Om Namah SivayaPranams to all Shiv Bhaktas !Dear Selvaratnam ji, Some embedded questions/comments.> Tirumantiram by Rishi Tirumular> Verse 1949 : Â Conservation of Sex Energy Vital for Yoga Practice> Thus conserved, they light the Fire of Kundalini,> And forcing it upward through Nadi Sushumna> Reach the state of illumination;> There they partake of the ambrosia> From the Moon within flows;> Those who do this in unbroken continuity,> Are verily Siva Yogins true.Rishi Tirumular is suggesting that veerya or semen be conserved and through yogic technique it should be used for raising kundalini. Is this technique well known or can it be practised without a guide or guru ? I have been hearing about yoga guru Baba Ramdev and his pranayama techniques for last few years. Even he says kapalbhaati and anulom-vilom pranayama can raise kundalini over a period of time. The problem is that if a common man does it he may inadvertently raise kundalini in a wrong way or one wrong step can be disastrous. Do you have any comments about Rishi Tirumular's technique or kundalini/pranayama ? > Â > Verse 1952: Â In Yoga Bindu is Divinely Assimilated> In ignorance the folks waste it daily,> And destroyed by senses, in pain weep;> If in wisdom, they conscious perform Yoga supreme,> The Bindu disppears, divinely assimilated.> Â What is the Yoga Bindu that is apparently wasted daily ? regards,Shailendra
