Guest guest
Om Jagadguruve namah Namaste, Bhagavan Shiv is the perfect Yogi. As Shiv Bhaktas, we should perform some austerity or tapas. This is also recommended in Bhagavad Gita. So I first offer prayer to Bhagavan Shiv to guide us to appropriate austerity. Each person in the group may have a unique situation due to physical, mental, emotional, financial situation and other possible restriction placed by society, time and place. I request senior group members to share their thoughts and personal experiences on what kind of austerity can be performed by a householder. For e.g. one simple austerity is recommended by Swami Sivananda - do not take salt once a week. with pranams to all Shiv Bhaktas, Shailendra
Guest guest
dear shivbhakts om namo bhagawate rudraya shivbhakt shailendra has brought in a good issue which shall be considered by all shivbhakts especially in the present situation the global economy is in. austerity in simple terms as preached by the sages in traditional hindu culture was to observe a fast for one day in a week. even mahatma gandhi endorsed this and requested all indians to observe once a week fasting which is good for health. shivbhakts traditionally keep fasting on all mondays in general and in kartika month in particular. in the modern context, shivbhakts can consider fasting on mondays during daytime and have food in the evening after spotting moon. you find various dikshas for vaious dieties like ayyappa diksha where natives restrict themselves to lie low and wear simple clothing all days during the diksha, remain barefoot, take only satvik self cooked meal, refrain from other comforts etc. these traditions are worth considering since they instill a self discipline and let the native not only live without comforts but also find it more happier and more closer to god while doing so. it is very common that most indians have some other self disciplined austerity measures of not taking nonvegetarian food or alcohol on a particular day or days of the week, not having meals on a particular day or days of the week etc. forthcoming mahashivaratri on 23rd february 2009 which is the most reverred festival for shivhakts, shivbhakts may consider foregoing their sleep and sing bhajans in groups like a night jagaran. with best wishes and blessings pandit arjun www.rudraksharemedy.com , Shailendra Bhatnagar <bhatnagar_shailendra wrote: > > Om Jagadguruve namah > Namaste, > Bhagavan Shiv is the perfect Yogi.
