Guest guest
I am just wondering what is the difference if any, between the white bhasma that you see yogis and swamis applying to themselves, and the greyish vibhuti that many times comes from a homa, and which you see yogis apply to themselves and even ingest. thank you. Guest guest
Radhe Krishna To all, Normally in an Hindu culture, we see people applying either the Holy ash or the Gopichandan . The actual reason as per our swamiji is that, Ash is the remains after burning. Gopi Chandan is nothing but the sand found in the sea shore of Dwaraka . While Vibhuti (sacred ash) is applied by the Saivites after burning the ¡I¢ sense (ego), Bhagavatas apply the sand under which their ¡I¢ sense is buried, over which Lord Sri Krishna lived, danced and played. Further when we love someone, we dress ourselves in a manner that would please the beloved. In the same way, devotees dress themselves according to the wish of their ishta devatas ( favorite Lord) . When doing so, one has to chant the different names of the ishta devata. The specific parts of the body where sacred ash/gopi chandan are applied are considered important by our scriptures. However the homa ash is grey in colour because it is direct after the homa is done and the rest is mixed with other ingridients like cowdung, perfume etc etc and filtered . Apart from this the color differences are just cosmetic changes initiated by the respective manufacturer only. This is the best I could help on this. Guest guest
Dear Ravisankar avl, Bhakti is eternal. A very nice elucidation. The Homa Bhasma though gray in color, is scientifically recommended as per our Ayurveda. The homa is performed by burning herbs/roots (oshadhis) with ghee obtained from cow milk and therefore it gives good health.. According to our ancient theory, inhaling the smoke of homa cures many deceases in our body. The value of Bhasma is unaccountable. The bhasma should be taken as prasada of Lord Siva. naagEndra haaraaya trilOcanaaya, bhasmaanga raagaaya mahESwaraya, nityaaya Suddhaya digambaraaya, tasmai ¡na¢ kaaraaya namaSSivaya. With love and regards, Sastry --- On Mon, 11/3/08, Ravishankar Gopal <ravishankar_g wrote: Ravishankar Gopal <ravishankar_gRe: bhasma and vibhooti Date: Monday, November 3, 2008, 3:00 PM Radhe Krishna To all, Normally in an Hindu culture, we see people applying either the Holy ash or the Gopichandan .
