Atirudram was conducted in Kumbakonam about 15 years ago.Sri Panchu

Sasrtigal was the chief priest. He is a scholar,vedapandit and one of

the few who could do bashya on Vedas.He took sanyas and reached Moksha.

He narrated this incident at the time of Poornahuti of Atirudram,

about the benefits derived by praying at the time of Poornahuti and

the unimaginable powers of SriRudram.

This incident happened in Sringeri in 1953 when Atirudram and Sahasra

Chandi homam was conducted. His Holiness Sri Chandrasekhara Bharati

Mahaswamy was the head of Sarada Peetam at that time.

Number of Brahmins had assembled from far and wide of India.It was a

scene to see hundreds of Veda pandits with their tri-pundram on their

foreheads and body, doing evening karmanushtam in Tunga river after bath.

Those were days when electicity has not been connected to rural

areas.The dining hall,kichen and resting hall were under covered

thatched shed and light was

kerosen or oil deepam.

Vaidik brahmins after having food went for rest.They did not getup

for a long time and the mutt administrator suspected some bad news and

he promptly reported to

His Holiness that a catastophe has happened.

Mahaswamy had not finished his puja of Sri Chandramouliswarar and

Sharadamba.

He asked the staff to get as much cow's milk from the nearby villages

as possible and started abhishekam with milk chanting SriRudram.Milk

flowed from the Spatika Lingam in blue colour.After a few minutes, the

Vaidik brahmins got up one by one and joined the puja being performed

by His Holiness.

In the hands of a Yogin, SriRudram can bring back life from poisonous

death.

The instance of Thirunavakkarasar who was thrown to sea after being

tied to a stone, was swept to the shores just by chanting

Panchakshara.He lived many more years after this incident

this is a great incident..u narated sir,..it took back to my memories of Lordess Sharadammbal situated in Sringeri temple mutt ,,,,

and the day of visit before 1984 where i could see the abishek of Chandramouliewar pooja performed by Swamiji....
