Guest guest
Namaste. It is a general notion that to make somebody happy, we need to praise them. Gods also need to be propitiated. One of the best ways to do this is to perform " Rudrabhishekam " to Lord Shiva and fast on a few Mondays & chant some Shiva slokas. It is very well known that Lord Shiva gets immensely happy whenever Rudrabhishekam is performed. Om Namah Shivaya !RegardsKiranOn Jan 29, 2008 5:37 PM, suchitra_kamath <suchitra_kamath wrote: Namaskar Shiva Bhaktas, From a time, that I don't remember, I have been worshipping Lord Shiva.Soemtimes for some gain, sometimes , jsut like that. Guest guest
God is full of Love and Compassion, the only way we repay is to understand god and walk in the way god wanted us, that is to lead our life in truth, love and compassion in the service of the universe. --- suchitra_kamath <suchitra_kamath wrote: > Namaskar Shiva Bhaktas, > > From a time, that I don't remember, I have been > worshipping Lord > Shiva.Soemtimes for some gain, sometimes , jsut like > that. Guest guest
Om Namah Sivaya Namaste, We can never repay him. Why ? Because everything is his. As long as we have doership and enjoyership (karta bhokta bhava), we are deluded jivas. We think we possess a body, a mind, some intellect and an ego. We think we earn a living, own some objects etc. We only possess objects we don't own them. The moment, we realize that Shiva alone exists in all living beings, then me and mine are gone. The moment, me and mine are gone, you are here and now free. Free from the bondage of action, result, birth, death, rebirth etc. So what is the best way to express gratitude to Lord Shiva ? The best gratitude would be to gain the knowledge that the essence of everything is Shiva - right from a blade of grass, or insect or Brahmaji - Shiva exists in everything. Recall the famous Gita verse Ishvaraha sarva bhutanam hrideshe arjun tishtati regards, Shailendra , " suchitra_kamath " <suchitra_kamath wrote: > > Namaskar Shiva Bhaktas, > > From a time, that I don't remember, I have been worshipping Lord > Shiva.Soemtimes for some gain, sometimes , jsut like that. Guest guest
Dear Shailendraji, your response is wonderful and awakening. I have been thinking and trying to practice spirituality and I have a few unanswered questions, they may seem silly but I have to clarify to go ahead. Please let me know what your thoughts on that. 1. All the spiritual masters like Swami Sivananda, Swami Chidananda, Sri Sri Ravishankar, Ramana Maharshi tell that we are not this physical body and there is no "me or I", how do we come to this realization? 2. In this materialistic and highly competitive world how far can we get spiritual or realize god, I mean if I think about saving money isnt it a worldly thought?, I have to think about money and attachments as I have a family and responsibilities to fulfill first. 3. How do we dissolve our ego completely to merge with God. Om Namah Shivaya. In Divine Love, Divakar. bhatnagar_shailendra <bhatnagar_shailendra wrote: Om Namah SivayaNamaste,We can never repay him. Guest guest
Dear Kiran, Om Namah Shivaya, There is a big difference between praising someone and flattery, In flattery we praise someone even if he do not deserve the praise out of fear or necessity, so we have to be very careful in praising the god or highly evolved souls. Praise or prayer or bhakti has to be pure with devotion and love, God loves action or karma, we have to act according to god's will. In Divine Love, Divakar. Guest guest
Om Namah sivaya My gratefulness to you for the best answer. The entire universe is Shiva and we are also part of Shiva. Knowing this fact we think of giving him something to repay for the favours received. Can he be ever repayed? He is formless and yet we give him a form, sometimes a linga form and sometimes a human form and worship him. He is beyond all emotions and yet we atttribute all human sentiments to him like happiness, sorrow, anger etc. Can he ever marry and we called his wife Parvathy and called her his sakthi. What nonsense Parvathy is shiva and none other than shiva. Just like we have our family with sons and daughters and their quarrelling between them, we built stories of quarrels between them. There is Shiva Aparada Kshamapana Stotram in which the bhakta seeks apology from Shiva for all the above 'aparadha", knowing that he is formless and yet giving him form, knowing that he is omnipresent, building temples for him in some places and visiting the place to worship him as if he is not present in our home, offering him gold and silver ornaments as if they belong to you. It is a fantastic stotram. I used to shed tears while chanting that mantra. Complete submission to him, 'saranagathi' is what is required. Total surrender. uninhited surrender. Guest guest
Dear Madam Suchitra, Mr.Kiran and Mr Divakar, Namaste to all. Bhakti is eternal. The question, though appears as childish, it is full of devotion and made me to recollect Sri Kalahasti, which is the example of types of devotional puja by a concentrated human, animal and even a snake. I would like to say some thing on this. When the entire Universe is in the Lord and of the Lord, what HE expects from us and from his own property? HE is the father of the entire Universe. Father always give whatever the children are in need. Does he expect any thing back? Never. We all pray Lord Siva in different sthothra. For instance: 1. NaagEndra haaraaya trilOcanaaya, bhasmaanga raagaaya mahESvaraaya, nityaaya Suddhaaya digambaraaya, tasmai “na” kaaraaya namaSSivaaya. 2. tridaLam triguNaakaaram, triNEtranca triyaayudham, trijanma paapasamhaaram, Ekabilvam Sivaarpitam. If we read the first one above, it is clear about the posture of Lord. He is adorned with “Bhasma” and not with ornaments. The second one says about the effect of offering one “Bilwa leaf”. There are many like this. What is that we should know? Lord does not aspire for any pomp and splendor. One leaf of “Bilwa” with full devotion and Bhakti is enough to attain Him. Siva's name literally means "auspicious" and it is an appropriate description of him. He is often portrayed as an ascetic or a yogi in Hindu mythology and art. Siva is also called Mahadeva or the Great God because through his many incarnations the whole of reality is explained or understood. Siva represents the Sun as the inherent power behind all creation. He is illuminating force of the mind and the world through the senses. He is the Atman, the highest Self. He is also often depicted with his wife, Parvati, who represents the Moon. The two representing a perfect whole and unity of man / woman – male / female energy or in Hindu terms, Siva / Shakti. Siva is often wrongly depicted merely a fearsome deity, through the terrible form of Rudra, the God of destruction and transformation. As Rudra, he brings the destruction that is necessary for the light of truth to be born out of chaos and ignorance. But Siva also gives the courage and strength necessary to endure the hardship and pain of this necessary transformation. The best way to repay Him is only chanting "Om NamahSSivaaya" Let us all live at the feet of "Jyothirlinga Swarupa". With love and regards, Sastry.
