However, a true bhakta of Lord Shiva does not know of any difference between Lord Narayana and Lord Shiva. In the Kaivalaya Upanishat it is said that the one absolute reality is Brahma, Shiva, Vishnu, Indra, Prana etc. Whether you worship Lord Narayana or Lord Shiva depends on your past, your prarabdha and your inclinations. Your study of Gita and Upanishads depends on which school you want to study. In my humble opinion, one school would be enough to study in one life time and it is really pointless to argue on the correctness of a given school or its superiority over others.
