Guest guest
I found a stone black Shivalinga that is about 5 to 6 inches long and fairly broad while digging in my garden. At first I kept it in the house, but a friend from Fiji said that when they find Shivalingas in Fiji they keep them outside, so I put it outside under an acacia tree (a species of Sami tree, but not a true Sami, as the nursery didn't have a true Sami, only a related species). I kept it outside all last winter, but the winter was so severe that the acacia almost died. Now I think that I want to bring both the Shivalinga and the acacia tree (it is small now, as it started to grow again from a shoot from the bottom of the stem), into the house for the winter. Should I keep them outside or bring them in? Does the black Shivalinga have anything to do with Shani? Barbara in Canada
Guest guest
In KEESARIGUTTA in ANDHRA PRADESH in INDIA ,there are hundreds of SHIVA LINGAS scattered on the hillocks in the countryside while the main SHIVA TEMPLE has a huge black SHIVALINGA consecrated by LORD RAMA as mythology says.It is said that LORD RAMA wanted to atone for killing a BRAHMIN-RAVANA & wanted to perform ABHISHEKHAM to SHIVA LINGA.He asked LORD HANUMAN to go to the HIMALAYAS & get a shiva linga. But Hanuman was over enthusiastic & brought 108 shiva lingas for his LORD.BUT HE ARRIVED LATE after sunset.Lord Rama sensing the delay used his divine power & did SHIVA MANASA POOJA & the shiva linga appeared before him.Hanuman was disappointed at his delay in arrival & flung all the 108 shiva lingas of various sizes he was carrying on the hillocks.Even today the villagers perform poojas to some of those shiva lingas.I see nothing wrong in keeping a shiva linga or a saligram at home as long as you perform daily abhishekhams & poojas & offer naivedyam.I have been doing this for last 20 years & LORD SHIVA is said to be BHOLA SHANKAR.He is pleased with even a tumbler of water poured over his linga & bestows boons to the devotee. dr.p.r.k.prasad Be a better sports nut! Guest guest
Hi Barbara, Don't listen to people. If you ask five different people, they will each give a different answer. You do what you think is right. If you feel like bringing it in, what could be the reason for not doing that. What makes you think it is a Sivalinga? Regards, Bhupendra. Guest guest
SRI MAATRE NAMAHA JAI GURUDEVA DATTA My dear Sister, Very happy to know about the news about sivalinga. It is indication of blessings of SADASIVA. Any one can keep a sivalinga in their house which is not so longer than four or five inches . It must be worshiiped daily pouring milk and water on it. It is also better to offer some thing like fruits milk etc., before we take lunch. It is also better to keep a saligrava along with that sivalinga. If SALIGRAVA is not available a SRICHAKRA may be kept and worshipped along with sivalinga. Guest guest
Hi, I don't know what a SALIGRAVA is. Is it a Shaligrama. I have what I was told is a Shaligrama, but I did touch it, now knowing what it was when I opened the package. I thought perhaps it was the head of a Shivalinga. I don't know what a SHRICHAKRA is. Is it the shell sacred to the goddess Lakshmi. I have one of those which I wear at my throat. I hope it is a true one. It is set in silver and I got it from the Rudra Center for $79, and it is very small, so I hope it is real, because the shell here would only be worth $2. I also wear rudraksha beads and sometimes tulsi, but most often rudraksha. Am I doing O.K.? I usually don't do puga, but I do try to feed the deities every day so they won't be hungry, and sometimes I burn a candle or light incense or put a little scent on some of them. I don't know whether my "Shivalinga" is a true Shivalinga or not, but it looks in shape like a small Narmada linga that I have, only it is larger and black, not brown. I feel much better with it inside, as the weather is getting cold now. I brought it in on a cold day, although last winter I left it out all winter, as I was told that was what to do. I am thinking of putting it in a base made from sulphur tablets. They are called MSM tablets and are taken for health reasons. The info for them can be found on the internet. Would this be alll right?I had made a small temple from a few bricks for a brass linga with a base, but I took it down. Is not the house a sufficient shelter? Don't really know as I was not born in this tradition--just kind of stumble along. In any case I read that some of the early Christians wore lingas, so I don't think I can go to the Christian hell for doing this--might go to the Hindu hell though, or the Muslim hell. I sure am in trouble. It seems whatever, I do, I'm going to hell. I have another question and it concerns Freemasons. Does anybody know about Freemasons? I read that anyone who has had a Freemason in the family needs to be exorcised. My uncle was a Freemason, and I remember he was trying to get my brother into it. I don't really know whether he did, but I think so. I read by someone who said that he was a 33-level Mason that at that level, they are told that they are worshipping Lucifer, the god of light, who in the Bible is identified with Satan. I doubt that my relatives ever went beyond the 3rd degree in Masonry though. The Masons are supposed to have originated from the Knights Templar. This really worries me. Do I need to be exorcised, and how is it done in Hinduism? I don't go to church anymore; I was told by an Anglican priest at my daughter's wedding not to come back to church until I get out of Hinduism and that was long ago, so I haven't gone back, except to someone' wedding. Maybe all of my problems are because I need to be exorcised. Guest guest
Hi Barbara, When you say "Maybe all of my problems are because I need to be exorcised.", what problems are you talking about? And you do not need to get exorcised. Peoples previous karmas tend to trouble them in the current life. Mason or a Freemason doesn't really matter. People who have a heavy burden of karma usually tend to be meek and have to suffer a lot. As for the linga, just do whatever you feel you should do. You seem to have a strong feeling towards it. So bring it in the house. Now whether or not you need to build a small shrine in the house is up to you. Just dedicate a place for which does not see much traffic (becuase no one should kick it by mistake and solititude is important) and keep it there. Avoid the basement. Maybe keep it in the study room....BTW, I am just giving suggestion. But surely bring the Linga in the house.
