[sri Selva said]

A sincere devotee will suffer a lot, because he is hurrying up in

the spiritual march. Many of his evil Karmas have to be worked out and

purged out quickly to hasten his salvation in this very birth. But,

God gives him extraordinary power of endurance through His grace. But

he rejoices even in sufferings and destitution on account of the

descent of the Lord's grace. He voluntarily welcomes these sufferings!

Om Namah Sivaya

Dear Sri Selva, Your statements above are probably true but there is

another thing to consider here. If somebody, sincerely chants the Sri

Rudram (there are specific verses which give specific results) the

sins are destroyed. When we approach Sri Bhagawan Rudra, we pray that

he should not direct his arrows at us. Now, what are these arrows ?

The interpretation that I have read (by an Advaita Acharya Swami

Dayananda of arsha vidya gurukulam) is that these arrows are nothing

but karmaphala coming in the form of discomforts, problems and pain.

So Rudra is the chastiser. It is said that you can look at Sri Rudra

in 2 ways - in his Rudra form he eventually makes you cry(pay for your

sins) and in his Shiva form he removes the sorrow of samsara. So he is

the cause of sorrow and also removes them.

I read that chanting the very first verse of Sri Rudram (the one

following Om Namo Bhagwate Rudraya), while circumbulating the Lord

destroys sins.

I would like to hear from the experts on this topic.

regards,

Shailendra
