Guest guest
Dear Members, This is a very old temple. The main rajagopuram has been demolished by miscreants. The main door on the east has been shut down and a concrete wall has been raised there. 2 sides of the temple has been enchroached nowand occupied by muslims. It was a timely effort by Mr.Narayanan a fisherman who got took up the work of constructing the walls on these sides. Now theirhouses are located adjoining the walls. The temple has no purohit and it is not clean. There was a very old man who has very poor eye sight. He uttered some musical notes in his own way and showed aarthi to shiva linga and ambal for us. The opening to the temple was at the southeren side. Apart from what we observed above a big burial ground has been constructed right in front of the temple. and the temple's tank was claimed as part of the mosque which has sprung up suddenly. No one is there to care about hte temple which is believed to be around 1000 years old. The local people are ignorant and therefore they do not get into any communcal clashes. Mr. Narayanan is the sole member in the whole village to take care of the temple and he tries to protect the temple on all counts from being occupied or disturbed. The temple's lands have been occupied by other community people. All that narayanan requests us is that we should keep visiting the temple often. He wants more and more people to visit the temple so that it would become famous and the visibility is there. Also it would fall with in the radar of all kind hearts. The temple has to be renovated and a new purohit has to be appointed there. And the broken and depleted idols etc have to be reinstated or renovated. This is for your information. please try to visit the temple at kovalam so that we coul do the needful as a collectie effort. Please also spread the message to all devottees. The temple is very old and it is right time we try to renovate it. Mr. Narayanan is willing to help us from all angles. Though he faced stiff resistance from other communities due to his influence he has taken up this noble cause. but since he does not have contacts of knowledge he requests help from all corners. He could be contacted at 94446 98182. Currently, Mr. Narayanan, the sole care taker of the temple is looking for a priest who could do regular puja at the temple.. He is even willing to extend a help of Rs 2000/month to any priest to take the task and also arrange for the accomodation. This is just the story of a single temple that would have once been at the height of prominence but today is completely forgotten. I urge that members in this group to come forward and help out with not only bringing back this temple to life but many others such as this. I urge you all to join temple_cleaners group found at temple_cleaners This is not merely a virtual group, but they do have a physical presence with members actively working towards temple restorations and renovations. The group not only aims to spread and re-inforce vedic dharma, they also hope to revival of such ancient temples could help rejuvenate economies of the local villages in way of tourism plus help slow and possibly stop conversions in villages and tribal areas. I became aware of this organization only after searching for something on the internet and finally decided to join this group. We could all contribute to this. Some of us might not have the inclination to provide financial contribution, but we might be able to contribute our time or atleast spread the word around and help in that way. Please lets consider doing something. I have brought up this subject before but nobody seems to be interested. Please...please consider....it doesn't cost any money to ponder over the matter. Guest guest
Om Namah Sivaya, Dear Sri Bhupendra, Thank you for your mail. I was on a pilgrimage in South India for two months in 2004, I was very impressed to see a group of young men dedicate their life to clean up and renovate temples as a service to the Lord. The leader of the group was based in a very famous Lord Siva in Mayiladuturai (Tamil Nadu state), http://www.indiantemples.com/Tamilnadu/s224.html. May be Mr.Narayanan could invite these devotees to the temple. He only needs to provide a place sleep and some food. One think I would like to say to you, there is nothing greater than working for the Lord directly. I always obtain immense inner joy whenever serving the Lord since my childhood, even in London I clean temple floors, lamps, etc with other devotees whenever I get the time and the opportunity. May the Lord bless you. Sivaya Namah Bhupendra Jamnadas <b_jamna> wrote: Dear Members, This is a very old temple. The main rajagopuram has been demolished by miscreants. Guest guest
Dear Selvaratnam Ji, The temple cleaners group that I mentioned is made up of volunteers and maybe you are referring to the same people here. But they need more volunteers and more funds as they keep coming across temples that need work and as they get better known, they are getting more and more requests for help. I was trying to bring to attention the work of this group and their need for help. They have a where they actively discuss projects and maintain a database of temples. Regards, Bhupendra.Selvaratnam Selvakumar <selvauk wrote: Om Namah Sivaya, Dear Sri Bhupendra, Thank you for your mail.
