SRI MAATRE NAMAHA

The 'Bharata varsha' ( India ) is a holy land and described

as 'Punya bhumi' since several hundred years. Several saints and

Mahatmas blessed this land by their kind and merciful actions as such

several devotees of them were benifited in this world and in the

heaven.

This is a story of a sacred saint of south india named as Sri

Chitambara Swamy of Penakacherla of Anantapur district in South

India.

" Sir Thomos Manro " was the adminstrater of 'Dattamandalam' in

south India which includes Anantapur District under the British

administration. Under his routeen work he visited a village named as

Singanamala in Anantapur district. He observed that several lands

under the village tank were under Brahmins name. As such he made an

enquiry with the brahmins about the reason. They said that they are

performing 'Yagnaas and Homaas' for pleasing the Gods as such the

rains shall come timely. As such there shall be no draught. For his

reason several rulers were allotted those lands to them. When asked

for the the then draught situattion they told that they are

not performing 'YAGNAS' etc., due to non avaliability of necessary

funds. After hearing the veridict, the collector sanctiond Rs.2000 /-

and asked the brahmins to do necessary Yaga and to see that rain must

be in seven days. They performed the yaga etc., but there was no sign

of clouds as an indication of rains. As such all brahmins went to Sri

Chitambara swamy and prayed for mercy. In the meanwhile Sir Thomos

Manro also came and asked Sri Chitambara swamy about the failure of

Yaaga etc. Sri Chitambara swamy said to collector to leave that place

immedaitly failing which he may not go to Anantapur due to overflow

of the tank with rainy water. When the collector crosed the tank

premises he faced big rain and he observed that the tank was

overflown with rainy water within hours. By this incident Sir Thomos

Manro was became a deciple of Sri Chitambara Swamy.

Who is this Chitambara Swamy? He was taken birth in a brahmin

community. He was a SROTRIYA BRAHMA NISTHA ( A person always

concentraing on him under the vedic path). Since from his child hood

he shows miracles. At the age of three he renderd 'Amarakosa

nighantu'. At the age of five he told poetry of his own. At the age

of sixteen he deliverd lecters about veda vedanga sastra etc., He got

married at the age of 22 years.

Once he went a Vysya devotee's house at their request and taken

meals there. By this action his father became angry and he expelled

him from his house. Our swamy not cared for any cast regulations.

In the meanwhile several devotees became wroshippers of our swamiji.

A lady prayed our swamy for children in her mind. Our swamy

recognised it. One day Swamiji was going in a street. The lady came

in opposite direction. Swamiji caught her left breast and twisted

the nipple. By seeing this her relatives caught hold our swamiji and

beaten up. After that they taken him and put him in a deep well and

covered it. After three days they came and dragged swamiji from the

well and astonished that he was alive. In the meanwhile the above

lady died with serpent bite. Her relatives making arrangements for

her funeral. Our swamiji went there and twisted the nipple of left

breast of that lady. She became alive as the poison of the serpent

was came out from that breast of that lady.

A devotee of Bhagavan Sambhu named as Sarana Ramappa was in a

habbit of worshipping Sri Bhogalingeswara Swamy (SIVA) located in te

bank of Pinakini River at Pamidi village. He was also in a habbit of

daily poor feeding . One day he prayed SIVA to give large sum of

money in which he may perform 'Kaasi Yaatra' with his group. While he

was comming to his house our swamiji appeared before him and ordered

to dig the flour of Ramappa's house. Ramappa acted accordingly and

found unlimited wealth in his house. With pleasure Ramappa invited

swamiji to come to kaasi( varanasi )along with them. But swamiji

refused the offer. When Ramappa went to Kaasi and found swamiji there

as a miracle. At the same time swamiji appeared in several houses of

his devotees.

He trained his deciples about vedanta, Gnana, Karma and Moksha

etc. He told them 'YEKAM SAT VIPRAA BAHUDA VADANTI' 'UTTISTHATA

JAAGRATA PRAAPYA VARAANNIBODHATA'

He decided to enter JEEVASAMAADHI (entering into the toumb with

life for ever) and he was entered into Jeevasamaadhi in Penakacherala

near Penakacherla dam, and showering his blessings on his devotees.

The above is the photo of the Jeeva Samadhi of Sri ChidambaraSwamy at Penakacherala. After Sir Thomas Monroe found that all the dried up tanks, lakes surrounding the town of Anantapur were filled to the brim with water, he made Sri Chidambaraswamy sit on his horse back and personally took Swamji around the place as a mark of his respect to Sri Chidambaraswamy.
