The first step has already been taken by laughter leaders Jeannie Magenta and Alex Phaneuf in Vancouver who will lead a 15 min laughter session on February 24th & 25th in front of over 10,000 people who will gather in an outdoor event of music, dance and other activities during the ongoing Winter Olympics. The event is a part of the `Made in Vancouver "Festival taking place on Hamilton Street for the next two weeks right in the heart of Yaletown and all the Olympic action. It has been organized by a company called `I Heart Van Art' which promotes local Vancouver-based talent: musicians, visual artists, dancers, performance artists, films, entertainment, etc. This occasion will be a landmark in the history of Laughter Yoga. As the movement spreads, more and more people will become aware of the several benefits of laughter therapy. We thank Jeannie and Alex for having taken this wonderful opportunity at the Winter Olympics to generate laughter and joy among the participants of the mega event. Laughter Yoga Session In Massachusetts Institute Of Technology This is another milestone for Laughter Yoga movement as it rapidly spreads into different areas from schools to companies, to hospitals and universities, special care centers to fitness studios and now to MIT, the most prestigious technology institute in the world. Known for scholastic distinction, the students and faculty of MIT went through the experience of Laughter Yoga and reported a marked difference in their attitude and perception. Lynn Caesar, Psychologist & Laughter Yoga Professional, recently conducted a Laughter Yoga session with the staff, faculty, and military fellows from the Security Studies Program, IT, Political Science, and other MIT affiliates. The authorities organized the Laughter Yoga session as part of their special four-week term held in January in which they can choose from a wide variety of personal and intellectual adventures beyond their academic routines. The session was well received and the group was playful and receptive. According to Lynn, the joyful event of Laughter Yoga helped the participants to minimize the negative effects of stress and pressure associated with the high demands of academic excellence at the esteemed institution. 17000 Members In Iranian Laughter Clubs No Joke!!! New Laughter Yoga Research Underway In Japan On his visit to Japan in November 2009, Dr. Kataria made a presentation at the University of Osaka in the Department of the social and environmental medicine headed by Dr. Tetsuya Ohira. Together they planned a new research program in collaboration with the Laughter Yoga teachers and leaders in Osaka. The research program was commenced in December last year with more than 80 participants. They took three groups: Laughter Yoga, music therapy, and control group. They measured blood pressure, body mass index, salivary cortisol, heart rate variablity, and other cardiovascular risk factors including lipid and HbA1c before the intervention, and will measure same variables after the intervention to evaluate 3-months intervention programs. So far, we have no idea about the results, but we will keep you posted about the on going study. We thank Prof. Ohira and all laughter professionals from Japan for doing another landmark research in the field of Laughter Yoga.
