What man does is just remove the layer covered on it or discover it. Discover means dis-the-cover. Do the action "dis". How many times this mantra is to be chanted is little bit difficult to tell you. In this case,

each line of this mantra is having twelve characters. twelve characters into four lines = 48 times. You may chant it 48 times per day. there is no supportive (pramAN) for this which I can provide you.

 

(Any mantra chanting has to be upto AKSHRA LAKSHA, means, how many words are there in a particular mantra, that much lakhs times. This is for upAsana purpose)

From Shiv Puran it is collected that the Mantra chanting is one mala either 108 or 54 or 28 and in some cases 7 only.If required any sidhi that needs guidence from some lereanet Guru other wise continue till you realize that it is rewarding very nicely if chanting for some particular purpose.I am chanting "Shiv Sehser Naam" sincle last 15 years for which I am rewarded what I requested.

Shiva Sahasranama Mantra is 1000 different names of lord of the lord Shiva. This mantra is very powerful.

 

There is a small story behind this how did Lord Vishnu got the Sudershan Chakra

 

Lord Vishnu prayed to Lord Shiva my this Mantra reciting Lord Shiva name 1000 times each time he recited a name he offered lotus to Shiva linga. At the end as he only brought 1000 lotus to offer to the Shiva Linga and he counted them very well, at 999 all the lotus ended and he was short of one Lotus. Then Lord Vishnu prayed to the lord Shiva for his short fall and immediately Lord Shiva appeared and told him that he has hidden one Lotus to check his devotion and offered Lord Vishnu back the last one Lotus back to him. To this devotion Bholenath Lord of the Lord Shiva gave his Sudershan Chakra to Lord Vishnu and told him that from now he will be called Sudershan Chakra dhari.

How many times this mantra is to be chanted is little bit difficult to tell you. In this case,

each line of this mantra is having twelve characters. twelve characters into four lines = 48 times. You may chant it 48 times per day. there is no supportive (pramAN) for this which I can provide you.

 

(Any mantra chanting has to be upto AKSHRA LAKSHA, means, how many words are there in a particular mantra, that much lakhs times. This is for upAsana purpose)

If any Mantra works by chanting for 7 times, then why people go for 108 times?

And you know " allowed " is a different " working " . If the " allowed " thing does not

" work " then what is the use of that?
