Guest guest
Thanks for sharing that link. I didn't try to download yet, but does it have the Sanskrit trans- literation along with English, or is it only in English? I prefer to see both in order to learn how the Vedas were trans- lated. Having an English version only does not let me see how they came up with the different trans- lations. For some time I've been looking for a good Vedas link. I liked the water on the main page (on the link). BTW, is anything like Kali Ma mentioned in the Rig Veda? I read something about a " Dawn Maiden " , but I don't know if that was any- thing related to Kali. Granted, I don't know the Vedas very well at this time. Guest guest
I tried to download Introduction to the Rig Veda from the link (first file). My computer detected a virus. It was a pop-up window that wanted to check my computer for viruses. When I clicked the X to close the program the window popped up again. I wonder why that type of program was attached to the Rig Veda file? At any rate, here is another link with " sections " to Rig Veda. http://www.utexas.edu/cola/centers/lrc/eieol/vedol-0-X.html This quote I really liked. " They indeed were comrades of the gods, Possessed of Truth, the poets of old: The fathers found the hidden light And with true prayer brought forth the dawn. (VII, 76, 4) " http://www.utexas.edu/cola/centers/lrc/eieol/vedol-0-X.html This next page gives illustration of how the text (Rig Veda) was translated. http://www.utexas.edu/cola/centers/lrc/eieol/vedol-1-X.html Here is the section about Usas (Uchanti) [This is just one English translation, but the page gives the Sanskrit so you can look at and interpret it yourself. http://www.utexas.edu/cola/centers/lrc/eieol/vedol-4-X.html Now she has come into view, approaching, Shining, the daughter of heaven. She draws away, for sight, the great darkness, The fair lady makes the light. The sun, at the same time, sends up beams, Rising, a flaming star. At your own brightening, O dawn, and the sun's, May we partake of our share. You, O daughter of heaven, We have wakened eager to meet, O dawn. Who brings much that is desirable, O lovely one, Happiness, like treasure, to the worshipper. You who, shining, assuredly, O great goddess, Makes the sunlight to be gazed on, seen; We approach you with longing, may we be Like her sons, of the mother dispensing treasure. Bring hither that radiant favour, O dawn, which is most famed. That mortal sustenance of yours, O daughter of heaven, Grant; may we turn it to account. Fame to princes, undying prosperity, Strength in cattle to us, Rouser of the gracious, may the joyous one, Dawn, shine misfortunes away. http://www.utexas.edu/cola/centers/lrc/eieol/vedol-4-X.html Before having researched this Goddess, my basic understanding was limited to: Ushas - " The lovely Hindu dawn maiden who sprung from the head of Dyaus. The twin sister of Nakt, or Ratri [the god- dess of night] (Hindu Mythology). Ass- ociated spellings/words: usas ['shining; east'] (Sanskrit); uchanti ['shining'] (Vedic). " Since " Kali " has something to do with time, I presume, and Usas is the " dawn " and sister of Nakt, or Ratri [the god- dess of night], is Usas also related to the concept of time? I am wondering if there is any relat- ionship between Usas and Kali-Ma. Does anybody know the answer to this? Etznab Kali_Ma , " D.R.D.
