Richard prabhu,

I have some out of print Gita Press publications (such as an English translation

of Garga Samhita) that I tried to sell in the ISKCON temple gift shop here.

However the temple president objected because he said Srila Prabhupad would not

approve and other devotees may complain.

Can you give your opinion on Gita Press and other devotional books not approved

by ISKCON?

I found Gita commentaries Tattvavivecani by Goyandka and Sadhak Sanjeevani by

Ramsukhdas to be helpful, but I definitely won't be selling them there.

There are some real funny things attached with Iskcon, first you add word "Prabhu"ahead of names and than reject scripts of Sri Krishna of Gita press!!

Dhitarashtra was blind by birth so he was helpless but Gandhari decided to accept blindness by her will, same goes for Iskcon.--- On Sat, 8/1/09, rnldef <rnldef wrote:

Namaskar,

Is ISKCON the only group using this adjective and how do you prefer to be

addressed? I humbly use " Prabhu " as an honorific, meaning superior or

god-brother, so why find fault with me?

Whenever I feel a need to consult Bhagavad Gita, I always go to my Gita Press

copies first, even though I also was initiated by Bhaktivedanta Swami in 1974.

It is true, that in comparing translations it seems the Gita Press commentaries

give a more complete or better explanation of many of the verses, and I believe

it is difficult to get a full realization of the message and spirit of the Gita

itself by intentionally reading only Srila Prabhupada's commentary.

BTW, there is a memorial reprint of the classic Shalagram Kosha (2 vols.) by

late S.K. Ramachandra Rao, published by Sri Satguru Publications. The quality is

excellent and I have purchased 4 extra copies, but it looks like I won't be

selling them at the temple here either.

Best Wishes

(non-Iskcon), LAKSHMI (money), KRISHNA (excuse), PRABHUPADA (Jesus), HARE BOL

(demanding you say " Hare " ), PRABHUPADA-SAID (Word of GOD), MAYA (outside

Iskcon), FRIED (burned out), etc. It's a really weird, weird world in Iskcon. I

know. Y/s, Richard

The Gaudiya Vaishnava Sampradaya began using " Prabhu " in it's REAL context of

addressing a superior or equal is self-realization, i.e., other devotees of

Krishna Bhagavan. And when used in proper context saying " Prabhu " is Vaishnava

achar. BUT, if you look at someone as other than Spiritual Master or equal, then

calling them Prabhu is hypocracy. Accordingly, as it is used all the time more

as " Sir " or " Dude " or " Hey You! " it becomes less and less meaningful, to the

point of cartoonish. But among devotees it is correct. As the writer (name

unknown) claims to be my initiated Godbrother, and he was addressing me, so it

was correct.

Y/s,

Richard

Dear Sir/Madam,Among Indians, it is a common practice to use the glorious titles like ,Prabhu, Guru, Jagat Guru (Teacher of the World), Bhagawan (God), Swamy (Lord), etc., are being commonly used.Their Jagat means, the world of thoughts in whch these gurus are living, seeping and dreaming. The same is true for others. We dont find anything wrong in it.When Lord Jesus was asked by the King that, are you a king? The reply was "YES , I am the King of world ,which does not belong to you".Same way, Our Indian religious leaders are, With kind regards.Rajeev Agnihotri

For example: Bhagavad Gita - 12/9

ISKCON GITA - As It Is

Verse:

Krishna to Arjuna: My dear Arjuna, O winner of wealth, if you cannot fix your

mind upon Me without deviation, then follow the regulative principles of

bhakti-yoga. In this way develop a desire to attain Me.

GITA PRESS GITA

If you cannot steadily fix your mind on Me, Arjuna, then seek to attain me

through the yoga of practice.

So is it " bhakti-yoga " or " abhyasaya-yoga " that is said in the text of this

Samskrit verse???

---It is " abhyasaya-yoga " (not said bhakti yoga), ACTUALLY said is

abhyasa-yogena or " abhyasaya-yoga " - that is the yoga of " practice "

---SO GITA PRESS IS CORRECT AND UNSLANTED (they don't say WHAT practice?)...

But it is not necessary to change the words of the sloka to fit one's agenda,

from abhyasa (practice) to say " bhakti yoga " .

So what is to be practiced? There are three successive paths given in Gita,

viz., Karma, Jnana, Bhakti. And we are left to find our OWN Guru, who has seen

the truth (as we like it to be seen), and surrender to, question, and serve such

a Guru. That is the " practice " and is already described (as a sloka) in the

Gita.

So that is the Choice: Jnana (advaita-vaad), Karma (chatur-artha-vaad), and

Bhakti-vaad.

In Bhagavad-gita, Lord Krishna doesn't make the choice for us. He tells us to

GET A REALIZED GURU to surrender, question and serve.

And that is what I have done, therefore the real meaning of this verse, FOR ME,

is practice of Bhakti Yoga.

Jai Srila Prabhupada!!!
