The concept of rebirth (unfortunately) is diametrically opposed to orthodox Christian belief. If rebirth were true, says the orthodox Christian, then Christ's mission and death and resurrection was for naught. To my knowledge, reincarnation was part of the official doctrine of the Catholic Church until around 400-500 AD. At that point the supreme ecclesiastical authority - the Pope/Emperor (Constantine?) imposed a doctrinal change, and thereafter reincarnation came to be regarded as heresy.> It is interesting/ironic, however, that Jesus Himself made several comments that can be interpreted as implying reincarnation.I would like to know more about this. > God Bless,> BradRegardsfg
Guest guest
Dear fg: The most explicit comment from Jesus on reincarnation is found in Matthew 17:12-13, "'But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.' Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist." As you may know, Elijah lived some 900 years before John the Baptist. Another interesting confirmation of the connection between these two individuals is found in Luke 1:13-17, when the angel Gabriel speaks to Zechariah, the future father of John the Baptist: "But the angel said to him: 'Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John. He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will refoice because of his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth. Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous---to make ready a people prepared for the Lord." Then, however, the performers of sacrifice descend again to earth to become herbs, creepers, vegetables and food grains. These are eaten by different living entities and turned to semen, which is injected into female bodies. Thus one takes birth again and again. Get your preferred Email name! Guest guest
It also states in one sloka... SB 7.15.47: According to the Vedas, there are two kinds of activities †" pravrtti and nivrtti. Pravrtti activities involve raising oneself from a lower to a higher condition of materialistic life, whereas nivrtti means the cessation of material desire. Through pravrtti activities one suffers from material entanglement, but by nivrtti activities one is purified and becomes fit to enjoy eternal, blissful life. sacred-objects , akshay vignhesh <akshay_vignhesh wrote: > > Dear Richard JI > > I am interested to know about our previous lift, is there any way can we find our what we were in our previous birth and were we were, > > best regards > Vignhesh > > > > > ________________________________ > Richard Shaw Brown <rsbj66 > Planetary Group Group <planetary-gemology >; Sacred Group Group <sacred-objects > > Cc: ; Om Ganesh Group ; Rudraksha Group ; Vedic Astrology Group <vedic astrology > > Tuesday, July 7, 2009 3:27:38 PM > Hindu Process of rebirth in 2 verses of Bhagavat-Purana SB 7.15.50-51: When oblations of ghee and food grains like barley and sesame are offered in sacrifice, they turn into celestial smoke, which carries one to successively higher planetary systems like the kingdoms of Dhuma, Ratri, Krshnapakssha, Dakshinam and ultimately the moon.
