http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerald_Buddha"According to legend, the Emerald Buddha was created in India in 43 BC by Nagasena in the city of Pataliputra (today Patna)."http://www.ganoksin.com/borisat/nenam/jade.htmJade is a confusing term since

it is used to refer to two different

gem materials. The two jades, jadeite and nephrite, can be somewhat

similar in appearance, so the confusion persists. Jadeite was first imported into China in 1784 from Burma. Up

to this time the jade used in China was nephrite jade. Jadeite is found

in a few places in the world, but the only commercially mined deposit

is in Burma. Burmese jade is another name for jadeite. So this statue is created in India in 43 BC.....till then nephrite was considered as jadeite...Just curious about the material used for this statue--- On Tue, 19/5/09, Ole Alstrup <alstrup wrote:Ole Alstrup <alstrupRe: Thailand's Emerald Buddhasacred-objects Date: Tuesday, 19 May, 2009, 3:38 PMhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerald_Buddhahimanshu gupte <hrguptesacred-objects Sent: Tuesday, 19 May, 2009 11:52:57Re: Thailand's Emerald BuddhaJadeite or emerald?????--- On Sat, 16/5/09, Rick Brown <rsbj66 wrote:Rick Brown <rsbj66 Thailand's Emerald Buddha"Sacred Group Group" <sacred-objects >, "Planetary Group Group" <planetary-gemology >Saturday, 16 May, 2009, 4:30 AM
