Guest guest
It is interesting you should bring this up again now, as I just received a reply from the related enquiry (fwd your original posting back in January) I wrote to the head pujari of that temple and also to ISCKON's deity worship minstry. I received the following reply which is taken from the PANCARATRA PRADIPA. Method of Deity Worship for the International Society for Krsna Consciousness. "Most left-turning conch shells available today are what are known as "Lightning Whelks" which, although not strictly the conches meant to be used in worship, are recognized as legitimate substitutes for standard conches in many temples in India, at least for the purpose of bathing the Deity. There is no need, however, to put such "conch shells" on the altar."The Pancaratra Pradipa was compiled by the ISKCON's GBC Deity worship research group, which included several senior sanyasis and devotees.Richard Shaw Brown <rsbj66sacred-objects Sent: Tuesday, 28 April, 2009 10:48:47 Whelk shells WRONGLY used as Lakshmi Shanks in Temple THIS IS IN AN ISKCON TEMPLE. Guest guest
----THIS IS NOT SHASTRA. THIS IS ISKCON MADE-UP NONSENSE. I'M A GEMOLOGIST. A RUBY IS A RUBY OR NOT. BOTTOM LINE IS THAT WHELK IS NOT THE SACRED CONCH (SHANK) REFERED TO BY EXPERT COLLECTORS, SYNISTRAL TURBINELLA PYRUM VALAMPURI SHANK, THE " LAKSHMI SHANK' --- AND WHELK IS NOT IT. PERIOD!!! THERE IS NO MENTION OF OTHER SHELLS BESIDES SHANK IN ALL SHASTRA. THEY CANNOT MAKE UP THE REALITY BY VOTE. CONCHOLOGISTS WORLD-WIDE ARE LAUGHING AT THE " FOOLISH HINDUS " - SPECIALLY ISKCON, WHILE THEY USE *NON CONCH* IMPURE UNBONA FIDE SHELL FROM THE WEST. CERTIFIED WRONG. IT HAS OFTEN BEEN SITED BY SRILA PRABHUPADA ABOUT THE VEDIC EXCEPTIONS, SUCH AS STOOL IS IMPURE BUT COW DUNG IS SUPER PURE, HE ALSO MENTIONED THAT BONES WERE IMPURE - EXCEPT WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE INDIAN SHANK (CONCH SHELL) EITHER SIDE OPENING ARE SUPER PURE EVEN FOR USE AS A BONE IN PUJA OF BHAGAVAN. THIS IS THE STANDARD IF YOU WANT TO START MAKING UP STANDARDS... PLEASE REMIND THEM OF PRABHUPADA'S TEACHINGS ON SHELL " ONLY SHANK IS PURE " OF BONE. BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT ONLY LOOKING ABSURD, BUT ARE FURTHER WRONGLY USING AN IMPURE BONE (WHELK) IN SERIOUS PUJA. ONLY SHANK, JUST LEFT SIDED OR BETTER RIGHT SIDED, AND THIS SHELL, " SHANK " IF A DIFFERENT SPECIES THAN THE COMMON " WHELK " FROM USA WHICH ARE IMPORTED INTO INDIA TO CHEAT THE INNOCENT HINDUS, INCLUDING THE TEMPLES. Guest guest
Hi Ole, I cite my Guru, ACBSP. You first cite Shastra on American " Whelk " shells. I'm sure they were unknown to Vedic Shastra... The science of Shank, i.e., CONCHOLOGY is best known to CONCHOLOGISTS & learned BRAHMINS. Y/s, Richard sacred-objects , Ole Alstrup <alstrup wrote: > > Yes ok. Guest guest
Tell those guys that they're embarrassing me. ONLY USE INDIAN SHANK, normal OR Valampuri. Whelk is ashudha. But even BIG non Iskcon temples sometimes are fooled by these shells, so it is not only Iskcon who are wrong in this regard. Real is real, and all else is false... Please send them all the info... It will be good improvement. thanks... thats a good service. And by shank he could not mean WHELK because Whelk was unknown in India 500 years ago. A ruby is a ruby, or NOT. A Shank is a Shank, or NOT. Whelk is NOT a shank. It is a scam, a con perpetrated by bogus or foolish Hindus since last 100 years only. If a WHELK is NOT sacred to put on the altar, then how is it sacred to bath the Deity? Typical Iskcon non-sense which disproves their bona fides. And is a SHAME! THIS IS ISKCON MADE-UP NONSENSE. I'M A GEMOLOGIST. A RUBY IS A RUBY OR NOT. WHELK DOESN'T COME FROM INDIA, IT ALWAYS OPENS ON THE RIGHT, IT HAS NO THREE - SEVEN RIDGES IN THE CONCH OPENING. ONLY SHANK, JUST LEFT SIDED OR BETTER RIGHT SIDED, AND THIS SHELL, " SHANK " IF A DIFFERENT SPECIES THAN THE COMMON " WHELK " FROM USA WHICH ARE IMPORTED INTO INDIA TO CHEAT THE INNOCENT HINDUS, INCLUDING THE TEMPLES.. BOTTOM LINE IS THAT IN MATTERS OF PUJA THE BRAHMANS SHOULD BE MORE EXPERT WITH GEMS AND SACRED NATURAL OBJECTS. WE CANNOT NOW FABRICATE OUR IMAGINATION AS ISKCON HAS DONE. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Y/s, HRISI (GIA) PG > > > > > > > > > > > > > > sacred-objects, Ole Alstrup <alstrup@ > wrote: > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > It is interesting you should bring this up again now, as I just received a reply from the related enquiry (fwd your original posting back in January) I wrote to the head pujari of that temple and also to ISCKON's deity worship minstry. I received the following reply which is taken from the PANCARATRA PRADIPA. Method of Deity Worship for the International Society for Krsna Consciousness. . > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > " Most left-turning conch shells available today are what are known as " Lightning Whelks " which, although not strictly the conches meant to be used in worship, are recognized as legitimate substitutes for standard conches in many temples in India, at least for the purpose of bathing the Deity.
