I absolutely agree with you. There is a story I would like share from Vallabaha Charya Charitra. Vallabha charya is one of the Avataras of Lord Datta Treya. Once some veda pandits after death went to heaven. There all members of heaven respected them. After some these pandits felt hungry and searched for food. No body offered food or drink there. But there they enjoyed wonderful music and dance. They thought there they would get tasty food and delicious drinks. In frustration they asked Indra for food. Then Indra told them that he was helpless to offer any food or drink. They asked the reason. Then Indra said that – you all recited mantras and Vedas with at most devotion but never offered food or water to any human being or any creature.
