I have just gone into classical chinese medicine treatment of

acupuncture and cooking the herbs with Female prof and instructor

here at chinese medical college in nyc

I have been quite ill with secondary adrenal exhaustion (western

diagnosis as my health has deteriorated to where i cannot get up off

the bed. I have been sole caretaker to mother and gave up my career

and life 5 years ago to do so

I did not say anything to the prof. except tired. I have

background in chinese medicine so i understood the diagnosis and was

for the first time comfortable psychically that i could work with

this Dr. and not have to take animal glandulars of adrenal extract

either by injection or mouth, actually she told me it would irritate

me to take them. i had been taking indian combinations of herbs for

adrenals which did not work for me

I am longtime vegan and practice yoga

In any event the diagnosis scared even me and i was told i had to

make arrangements for care for mother as i was no longer capable

of doing so and would die befor e her if i continue to care for her.

which i could not do anyway as i am too weak.

so i am in acupuncture and drinking the stewed herbs daily for

many months to come. i will report back.

for those that understand chinese medicine. the kidneys both yin and

yang are,,,, to pu t it mildy seriously deficient.empty gone

wiped out that i am standing is curious.must be the russian genes.

there is more but i wanted to make a point about chinese medicine.

and each person is different in constitution environment and

what may work for some may not work for others.

Hi Ole,

Daniel P. Reid is a world authority on Chinese herbal medicine. There

are two types of Chinese, meat eaters and vegetarians. Accordingly

there are two types of Chinese Rx: non-veg AND veg.

Animal ingredients are a traditional part of Chinese medicine, more so than Ayurveda in India.

Vegetarianism is not uncommon or unusual in China; though, as is the case in the

West, it is only practiced by a relatively small fraction of the

population. Most Chinese vegetarians are Buddhists following the Buddhist teachings about minimizing suffering.

Vegetables are considered intrinsically healthy, but the Chinese

have also traditionally believed that they lack any physically

fortifying properties, and strict vegetarian diets are unusual except

for religious reasons. There is also, generally speaking, a stigma

attached to not eating meat.

Vegetable-only dishes are widely available, though cooking fat and stocks are usually of animal origin.

I was responding to the belief that chinese medicine is vegetarian, which you had indicated in your previous posting, that is wrong. Meat is very much a part of yin tonification in chinese medicine. There is nothing wrong in taking animal products to cure your disease, that is even sanctioned in the vedic system, (where you seem to have a faith) even by great acharyas like Srila Prabhupada, who was otherwise a staunch lactovegetarian and perhaps the biggest worldwide religious preacher against meat consumption of all times. anne thakur <annethakursacred-objects Sent: Wednesday, 18 February, 2009 0:20:51 Re: chinese medicine

There is vegetarian Chinese medicine. Not all Chinese medicine has

animal products. But as the majority are meat-eaters, so the majority

of medicine is also non-veg.

Prabhupada you mention is, actually, the World's biggest exponent of

vegetarian diet in history. He is also my own Guru Maharaj. Wonderful.

But " Prabhupada said " is becoming a BIGGER mantra than Maha Mantra as

a form of apotheosis.
