Guest guest
In my opinion there is no such science. And it is nonsense because of several reasons. And when Pandits mention it is to mask their own ignorance of gems and gem values. 1) In Vedic culture there are three types of Ratti - there is no carat. 2) Telling a poor person to get a large gem of certain weight is nonsense because they cannot afford such gem in Jyotish quality 3) There is no vidhi of carat weights on gems in all the Vedas. So WHY is it an issue anyone cares about. When it is absurd!

Guest guest
Hi Rahul,Well, fact is the ratti seed grows in 3 basic sizes, none of which are a carat (0.20 gm). Accordingly there are three rattii weights given. But these days all gems are sold in carat weight, which is not given in Shastra. So to advise someone to use gem of specific weight in nonsense and meaningless. Please do a search in Group messages for Ratti and you find the details in the old message.Richard Shaw Brown's iPhonehttp://richardshawbrown.comOn Feb 17, 2009, at 7:54 PM, Rahul Sharma <toneyrahulsharma wrote:Respected Richard Ji      Can you please explain in more detail about the three type of ratti what i know and based on my calculation  Small Ratti= 121mg= 0.6 Ct Wt Large Ratti= 181mg= 0.9 Ct Wt      My question is why we have small and large what is the reason behind this and to which gems it does apply to.
