Where there is a great Deal of Light, the shadows are deeper...... After having secured, just average marks in my 12th class board examination, it was fate accompli that admission in top colleges of Delhi shall be denied to me. I got enlisted in a B grade college of Delhi university. Yet there was a chance for me to become a student of an Honourable College, as DU has a small admission window during end October on account of non-enlisting of some students. On my part I was visiting a particular college hoping against hope that something might work out. After much spadework i was able to get an appointment with the Principal, who refused me, admission point blank. Desolation overtook me, I sat beneath the lone banyan tree in the lush fields of the college & i prayed to the Lord to show me some light. Here i was the scion to a

Multi-Crore empire, who did not want to seek favour of powerful relatives & friends. My parents could have got me admitted to any top college with a drop of a hat, but they wanted me to realise the enormity of not taking my studies seriously. I made a sincere prayer to the Lord & tears flowed through my (honest) eyes, perhaps for the first time in life i had tasted the salt of my tears. As i picked up my bag, a peon approached me & told me that the principal had summoned me. As i entered the chamber once more i was wondering what further reprimand awaited me. This time the principal was amenable & told me that admission was possible if i promised to excel at studies & work hard to groom myself into a fine young man. With the profoundest of gratitude, i grabbed this opportunity with both hands. My prayer had been heard & my dream of studying in a top college had seen the light of the day. As though

transformed, I became a Top Student with 100% attendance & excellent grades. I would sportingly chide my parents "look what gesture Lord Shiva has shown towards me, as he alone got me admitted to the best college, & i on my part (even though little) i have not let him down." My parents would knowingly smile back. As my three years at the college were drawing to a close, the Principal once came to our class, & told me he wanted to have a word. He lovingly kept his hand up my shoulder & ushered me the banyan tree, where i had made my eternal request. And shared with me a secret, the day I had approached him for admission, my father who was his batchmate during MSc had called him & requested him to grant me admisssion to the college inorder to show that nothing was amiss, he had admonished me during my initial approach. (As i was about to leave home on 27th October

1994, my mother had inquired about my program, & i had mentioned that i shall be going the said college to secure an admission. Its then that my parents out of their unfathomable love had decided to turn a few screws to get me my wish. But they kept this a secret as they did'nt want to affect my pride.....) Once again tears rolled out of my eyes & as though Lord Shiva smiled at me, I thanked him profusely for giving me parents like Prabha & Pramod. What more can be his real & truest blessings. My Lord & My Parents know this...... that the sampling you have groomed so lovingly will be more than willingly to give what it takes. As in this world of give & take few are willing to give what it takes...... Aum Abhishek
