Guest guest
Some one (Deshi) wrote me privately laughing at the joke below. But honestly, people could easily think " cheap " was a Hindi word, because almost every Indian who ever came in my store always wanted, " CHEAP! " or its variation, " CHEAPER! " I always ask them, " Are you saying my prices are too high? OR That you don't have enough money? Do you want a CHEAPER item? " If they reply that my price should be reduced (rudely inferring that the item is OVER-PRICED), then I reply that the price should be increased (because it is actually too low). Increase+Decrease=SAME PRICE AS ASKING PRICE. So why waste time looking for " Cheap " or asking for " Cheaper " . This culture of bargaining-down the price is miserly and pathetic. It is also rude, conflictive, uncivilized, and OUT OF DATE. It also forces the seller to artifically RAISE the asking price because they know the misers will come and say " CHEAPER " - so then they discount to the NORMAL price. So why waste time like this? We are in the 21st Century. I like department stores with fixed price. That is civilized. If an item is beyond your reach then so be it. If I buy a $1000 ruby in Thailand the price is $1000. Easy! But if I buy a $1000 ruby in Jaipur then they want $10,000, and I offer $100, and so we finally come to $1000 after all. Now isn't that a SILLY waste of time??
