Dear Sir, Guru Nanak is Guru Nanak, he can do it even today. That said let me share this very wonderful anecdote regarding the Sardar Khuswant Singh, a famous journalist. He was photographed having drinks & kissing Pakistani Women in a party thrown in Lahore. The Local Qazi issued a Death Warrant in his name saying his acts are blasphemous!!! "That a gentleman be drunk & kiss ladies half his age & that too a Sardarji!!!... Undaunted Khuswant Singh confronted him & quoted this Urdu Couplet; "Gar Mulla Dum Hai teri Dua Mein, Toh is masjid ki Minar Ko Hila Kar Dikha, Gar Dum Nahi toh le pii do ghoont aur Masjid ko hilta dekh." Translated it means " O Priest if you are so confident of your devotion then try to move the the minaret of your Masjid, if not then Gulp this Scotch & see the entire Masjid shaking. The Bemused Qazi could not help but smile & the fatwa was annulled. So if a two cent piker like Sardar Khushwant Singh could manage this in 2001, what to say of Guru Nanak Dev. As regards Mr. Bhatia, the Mayor, I am sure he was high when he told you his version of the event. Aapka Asli Mitra, Abhishek Richard Shaw-Brown <rsbj66 wrote: Dear Abhi,I heard the story from late Durga Das Bhatia, then Mayor of Amritsar. It was as he told me, different from your version. So who do I believe? During time of Guru Nanak the Muslims would have killed him for such Koranic blasphamy. Then they were sawing people in half, cutting people to bits, and smashing temples. But you propose that Guru Nanak convinced them that Mecca is where ever his feet are!? He would be killed even today for that statement, what to speak of 500 years ago. Get real! Yet I was told by late Mayor of Amritsar, a Hindu, that some Muslims moved the sleeping Guru Nanak so his feet would not face toward Mecca. But, lo and behold, Mecca also moved to follow the feet of the Guru. In fact Mecca has NEVER moved. So that story is complete nonsense.
