Guest guest
" Like, Misunderstood " by Rick Brown & Mike Stax This amazing story Rocks!, January 10, 2008 By S. Wolfe " Johnny Ricochet " (Las Vegas) - See all my reviews For those who are interested in the real history of rock and roll this book is a must read. I knew about this band long ago and wondered what happened to em. Now after finding out about this new book and reading it I'm glad to see this story got written. The Misunderstood, who's name is even more appropriate now then in the 60's, was on the road to huge stardom before the lead singers (Rick Brown) life boomeranged when he got drafted. He had written some of the early psychadelic anthems like " I can take you to the sun " and others which were recognized by music historians. Having grown up myself in the 60's as a teenager in California and being a devout fan of the Yardbirds (with the original members of Eric Clapton and then later Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page) if you were hip you knew about The Misunderstood. When the Misunderstood went to England they were doing things on stage which were later aped by such luminaries as Pink Floyd, Zeplin and others. Eric Clapton describes in his new book a lot about this whole magical period in England. It was during that time when Clapton had joined the Yardbirds and the swinging 60's London had taken off. This was the scene the Misunderstood got dropped into and they were just ready to take off on a huge worldwide tour when the dream took a differt turn...and Rick the lead singer got drafted. The story talks about Rick being invited by Jeff Beck to stay at his pad for a while, the parties, the insanity and just the whole rock and roll dream that was so within reach. You got to read the book just for this part of the story...its a riot. However, I found the most interesting part of this whole amazing story is Rick Browns hiding out in India/Nepal and doing everything from living in misquito invested jungles as a monk to becoming friendly with the President of India to discovering ancient ruby mines. Now thats rock and roll. Anyway, this is an amazing story that is fun to read. A true " can't put it down til you finished " type read and with an unusual writing style called " surf talk " or something. This is an unusual and highly entertaining and somewhat enlightening story of the irony of a true rock star that played his life out on a different stage. At least a genuine peace of true Rock history has not been left buried in antiquity with the release of this book. ---Keep rockin, Johnny Ricochet Ref. http://www.amazon.com/Like-Misunderstood-Rick-Brown-Mike/dp/0977816613/ref=pd_bb\ s_sr_1?ie=UTF8 & s=books & qid=1200354340 & sr=1-1 Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.
