There is no scriptural basis for this, as it is nothing but folklore passed down thru the generations. It is this kind of folk misinformation that is behind the cracking open of saligrams in Nepal. But it shows what kind of things some people believe. Cracking open Shalagrams to look for gold is TOO bad.
