Guest guest
Dear All, Namaste!!! It would be an interesting exercise to try to place different religions as either advaita siddhanta or dvaita siddhanta. Siddha-anta is goal. Veda-anta is knowledge, Every religion has it's veda-anta or philosophy (vidya=knowledge), and siddha-anta or goal (siddhi=attainment), and these are either dvaitavad or advaitavad. Even Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who joined the two in his presentation of vedaved warned that it was " acintya " or unthinkable, and finally he is dvaitavadin or astik descended from Madhva Sampradaya. So the exercise is to place the below religions as either advaita (impersonalism) or dvaita (personalism): Catholic Jewish Protestant Islam Jain Shinto Zorastrian Sikh Sufism Buddhism Hinduism -Shankara -Ramanuja -Vishnu Swami -Nimbarka -Madhva -Chaitanya -Vallabha -Patanjali -Charvak -Rama Krishna Mission -Cinmoy Mission -Ramanandi -Swami Narayana -SRF (Self Realization Fellowship) -Satya Sai Baba -Agori Zen Scientology Radha Swomi Can anyone return this list with categories, either advaita or dvaita? This is just an exercise in philosophy, not a message nor opinion nor arguement. Each of the above has it's siddhanta, either monism or dualism. If we consider these things it will be interesting and beneficial. Please excuse if I missed any religion, and welcome to add any religion. Best wishes, Richard Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.
Guest guest
Richardji, The very act of labelling advaita as impersonalism and dvaita as the opposite is a very strong opinion that usually cites argument from the get go. Guest guest
Dear Sriman, 39 years ago I read The Brahmasutra tika by Shankar. In there he was very expert in establishing nirveshesh, nirgun, nirakar brahman or impersonalism (aham brahmasmi/tat tvamasi). I also read Govinda Bhasya by Baladev - tika of Brahmasutra (antar bhuta- gramavat-svatmanah). In there he was very expert in establishing sakar para brahma as being Bhagavan, the super soul Who he establishes is always a person ruling over maya and the jivatmas. The Supreme Person. Intelligent design creation. These two acharyas have established personalism and the opposite. It is not my opinion. If you read the differing tikas of Brahmasutra it will be clear that it is the intention of the achayas to establish personalism and impersonalism. This is well known to every reader of Brahma- sutra. But if they read ONLY the advaitavad OR only the dvaitavad tika, then they are hardly able to choose. It's like what is the difference between sweet and salty. If one has ONLY tasted salty then that's all they know. Same with dvaita and advaita, having studied both, I understand both. The arguements the counter-logic, the praman. But please, why not engage in the exercise as I requested? Please give us your knowledge of the worlds different religions, dvaita (personal) or advaita (impersonal): Please. Tell us what they are? Theism or atheism? Guest guest
Dear Maharaji, Actually I have read and studied both. Studied the advaitic translations with several teachers and the dvaitic at the ISKCON temple in Brooklyn some 25 years back. My conclusions are quite different from yours. I have ZERO interest in arguing based upon academic understanding, which is where you pointed out you are coming from. I find that sort of thing pretty useless and time wasting...which is a big deal because life is VERY short. To state that even the formless form of God/Goddess is "impersonal" is silly and devoid of experiential and logical understanding, IMHO and in my humble experience. God/Goddess in every conceivable form is ALL Personal.
