My mind was not at rest, I had to find this Yogi somehow. Out of the blue it struck me, how I could find his address. Obviously Iam not supposed to reveal the source from which I got to know his whereabouts. The person was gracious enough to reveal the address despite some initial confusion regarding the landmarks. I was jubilant.Though it seemed as if I had got the address by my efforts, it was all the Siddha's doing.I knew it all along because, the idea would not strike me at the appropriate moment where to search and whom to contact. I was 'darned-damned- lucky' but then it is all Karma. If one has a good stock of Karmas from past birth, one does see many saints and Yogis not to mention visions of deities. Whether it was sheer luck or my set of past birth good karmas or Siddha's Ahethuki Kripa or a combination of all the three(which only seems plausible in this case), I once again ended up meeting a Mahasiddhapurusha. By 8:30pm I was there in His 6 by 6 feet room under a staircase in a decrepit old building after walking on the ground floor in a narrow path. Shopowners even just outside the building did not know about this Yogi, much to my consternation! This surprised me very much and no wonder my respect and awe grew about this Mahan. I removed my shoes and saw a frail and febrile old figure with snow-white beard and matted locks sitting on an ancient Naarkaali(Old type of Tamizh chairs made for elderly people to rest and relax) made of rosewood. There was a small bevy of people standing outside the small nondecrepit room. One old lady was begging outside for some money looking at me. I felt a bit of pity and gave her a Rs.10 note. She felt happy and went to drink some tea and eat cherry bun in the local tea shop. A siddhavaidhyam shop which was huddled in the midst of the narrow building had the inmates who were luaghing and discussing something else, unawares of a great soul residing next door. One Sri Krishnamurthy, who does seva to this Baba saw us and smiled. He started to tell some facts about Baba. When I saw the Yogi, He was in His own world, talking and mumbling looking elsewhere. One boy was sitting opposite to Him looking at Him with reverence. One more boy was sitting next to Him seeking something with outstreched hands. TheYogi did not seem to bother. He was in his own divine world --talking and mumbling to strange unseen forces. Rumi the sufi, after His enlightenment. I could see a row of bread packets which devotees had given. I had come prepared with the latest Sony handycam bought in USA to take a clear picture of Him and so had asked my wife to switch it ON. We took the permission of SriKrishnamurthy and started to reel the Camera. Suddenly, the Siddha turned to my side and said clearly in Tamizh, "Innakki illa naalakki..." (not today but tommorow) and then he spoke clearly in English..."Tommorow ...Tommorow. .. not today" I was taken aback. He knew English. I immidiately stopped my wife from taking His footage, respecting his words. Even then a 3 second capture of Him came in the camera, which I showed to y parents after coming home. As I was going out I asked if I can have a small photo of Paranjyothiyaar. Sri Krishnamurthy obliged and gave a small pocket sized photo and said, "This is all I have right now.He seeks no publicity. The photos you see in this room are all His photos which I have hung up here." I saw the photos in His room. All were His photos, obviously taken by His devotees and admirers. There was not a single photo of any Hindu God or Goddess. There was one Agal-Vilakku( a Big clay lamp filled with Ghee) and it was lit always. You can see it all in the video. He blessed my wife and children. I saw His legs were swollen and pussridden and His left hand was paralyzed and turned in an awkward position. SriKrishnamurthy Avargal has said, "I will reveal you about Him later, please come again and often" I live close by so it would not be a problem for me to come regularly. I went the next day, that is Yesterday, this time with my old father also. What happened then? We will see that next e-mail. Even today I have had His darshan and am typing these lines for my Group members all over the world to see. We will also see how bigshots in today's world like Rajinikanth, Ilayaraja, Drums Mani,Actress Neelima Rani,Comedy actor Vivek,Director Vincent, Music director Sirpi, etc have all become big by getting His blessings. This apart from many people who take his darshan and blessings for various problems ranging from Kidney replacement surgeries to financial difficulties. I feel blessed this lifetime that I have the opportunity to meet so many saints, siddhas and Mahapurushas and that too at such a young age. I wish all my friends, some still in College, would also share the same spiritual joy I find in meeting such saints but alas! everyone seem to be busy in their own selfish and parochial world, with day to day cares, economic and family squabbles. Some of my friends even have taken to drugs despite being in prestigious institutions like IIT,some have become very greedy for money and career advancement and the such. Youngsters of this generation are highly career oriented and look at spiritual world with askance and only as a form of relaxation in their career troubles. Spirituality is not some kind of "Art of Living" kind of workshop where some euphoria is smeared on their psyches in the name of spirituality and they think this is all God is! I myself have attended tonnes of such workshops. Yet a meeting with a Mahapurusha like say Sathya Sai or a Siddha like this whom no one knows, is like a basemetal touching the philosopher' s stone and like the alchemist turning the basemetal into Gold, an alechmical reaction sets in the person who visits such people. Something might click some time some where. One must keep searching and never be complacent.I have my own chequered path with my Gurunathar but this does not mean, I can sleep and rest on mayavic laurels(there are no laurels in spiritual field, only small experiences) .One must be on a constant journey and every day must be started as "the first day of the rest of my life" Everyday I wake up as a student, by the end of the day, I say to the celing above me, which I have painstakingly drawn using radium colour('glow- in-the-dark- paint used for children's bedrooms) to imitate the stars and the moon in the sky...I say to this artificial 'Vettaveli'( Space expanse) created in my bedroom which glows etherially when I switchoff the bedroom lights... "Take me into you, Amma and release me afresh as a student tommorow if I survive this night" Let me take rest tonight(time here is 12:44 pm) and have to get some shut-eye and survive to post the next in the series "Afresh"... Humphat swaha! (To be continued... ) Shreeram Balijepalli Hreem Rajarajeshwari Paradevatha! Purity, Powers, Parabrahmam...
Guest guest
Jaya GuruDatta! I want to give some information about our Datta Guru. The path of Dattatreya embraces all spiritual paths and is the source of all other traditions. He who treads the path of Truth, regardless of what religion he belongs to, is treading the path of Dattatreya. As an incarnation of God, Datta came down to spread the universality of true religion. Anyone can be his follower, regardless of cast, creed, status, be they student, householder, recluse or renunciate. No matter what sect or religion the true seeker follows, eventually he comes under the guidance of Lord Dattatreya, the Eternal Spiritual Guide of all mankind. Datta's presence is not limited to any one country or sphere, as He is the Guru of all Gurus, the all-seeing, all-powerful, ever-present link between God and Man. However, special places of worship (Datta Peethas) have grown up around sacred areas, where His presence is most strongly felt by the sincere seeker of Datta. These places include Suchindram, Senthamangalam, Mount Girnar, Nagalapuram in Andhra, Prayag, Datta Guha in the Himalayas, Gulbarga -Ganagapura, Narasimhavadi in Maharastra, Quthambara near Poona, Avadumbara, Somapuram, Chandradronagiri and Datta Peetha at Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Ashrama, Mysore. One notable aspect of these Datta Peethas is their indefinable but inseparable relationship with worship of God as Mother, the Supreme Energy -Shakti. (Hence, Sri Swamiji's fierce aspect as Mother Chamunda.) Parasurama (eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu), approached Lord Dattatreya and was initiated into the intricacies of how to worship the Mother (Shreevidya Upaasana), before undertaking intense penance to obtain the grace of the Divine Mother. The Saandilya Upanishad declares very clearly that Lord Dattatreya is the Supreme Reality and is the cause of everything that is created. It states, "The Supreme Brahman performed penance which was of the nature of knowledge (jnyana), and desiring to become many, assumed the form of Dattatreya. From that form came out the three letters A, U, M; the three mystical names Bhuh, Bhuvah and Svah; the three-lined Gayatri; the three Vedas Rig, Yajur and Sama; the three Gods Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara; the three castes Brahmana, Kshatriya and Vysya; and the three fires Gaarhapatya, Ashavaneeya and Dakshina.""The lord is endowed with all wealth. He is all pervading and resides in the hearts of all beings. He is the great Maayavi, sporting with His own Maaya. He is Brahma. His Vishnu, He is Rudra. He is Indra and He is also all the gods of heaven and all other beings. He is East, He is West, He is North, He is South, He is below and He is above. He is everything. This is the glory of the form of Dattatreya." Lord Dattatreya came as the Supreme Philosopher (Avadhoota) so that the true meaning and purpose of Sacrifice (Tyaaga) may be revealed to mankind. Atri, His father, symbolizes penance (tapas) as described in the scriptures, and Anasooya represents freedom from jealousy. When penance and non-jealous nature unite in a single person, the highest truth emerges as Lord Dattatreya. As ultimate self-sacrifice, the Supreme God gave Himself as Datta to Atri and Anasooya. Hence, "Datta" means not only "that which is given", but also as the ideal of "giving" without desire for reward, i.e. selfless giving. The whole life of Dattatreya shows us that this "giving" selflessly is the true renunciation/sacrifice. The significance of this sacrifice is stated in the Dattatreya Upanishad where the Lord says, "Not by action, not by progeny, nor even by self, but by renunciation (tyaaga) alone is immortality attained. "Real renunciation is the giving up of "I" and mine, not the mere abandoning of duties. Living a selfless life require giving up one's ego. That is what Lord Dattatreya describes as true sacrifice. As a Yoga-Avatar, Lord Dattatreya teaches us to perform all our duties skillfully and diligently. Yoga does not require outside aids, nor does it demand great physical effort. All we have to do is change our outlook and transform our attitude to life. This "change" consist of giving up the idea or feeling of "doership", "enjoyership" and the resultant anxiety (and attachment ) for the fruits of our actions. By performing all our duties with this changed outlook, our mind will be freed from agitation and attain the restful state called "equanimity", or the state where there is no "mind". This is the state of Bliss that every soul ultimately aspires to. This is the state of Datta - the ultimate Gift of God. Symbolically Lord Dattatreya is depicted with three heads, six hands, four dogs, standing in front of a cow and tree. In his hands He holds a drum (damaru), discus like weapon (chakra), conch shell (sankh), rosary (japa mala), water vessel (kamandala) and a trident (trisula). The Lord's three heads represent Brahma Tatwa, Vishnu Tatwa and Shiva Tatwa. All powerful creative cause is Brahma, sustaining energy is Vishnu and annihilating energy is Shiva (Srishti, Sthithi and Laya energies) are three heads. All these attributes of the Lord have their esoteric meanings. The trident is used for killing the ego, and the drum is used to awaken those souls who are still sleeping in the slumber of ignorance. Lord Datta's conch shell is used to sound the OMKARA, the primordial sound and the first word of the Hindu scriptures. The divine AUM is composed of Akara - the Creator/Initiator, Brahma; Ukara -Sustainer/Protector, Vishnu; Makara - Destroyer/Terminator, Maheswara. When mixed together in the conch of the Lord, they sound as the eternal Omkara -Datta. OM is an essential sound. With every breath our lungs resonate the Omkara. So-hum...So-hum... I am the world, I am the universe, I am Lord Shiva, I am Lord Vishnu... We are always chanting this mantra, even when we are walking, talking, eating or sleeping. The speed with which we sound this So-hum may change with our bodily activity, but the So-hum remains eternal. When the body stops resonating with this divine sound, the soul seeks another residence. All living creatures, even animals resonate this AUM in their body. In Sanskrit, "Datta" means gift, hence, Omkara is the eternal gift of God to all souls. Lord Dattatreya is also holding a rotating discus -chakra. It is a round circle with no beginning and no end. Like the universe, it too is constantly moving, always in a flux. He uses this chakra to destroy all kinds of karmic bonds of His devotees. His right hand holds a rosary -japa mala. With this the Lord counts His devotees, liberating them by merely thinking of their name. In another hand the Lord is carrying the water pot -kamandala. This holds the nectar of pure wisdom. With this He revives the souls thirsty for knowledge, liberating them from the endless cycle of life and death. The four dogs of Dattatreya are the embodiments of the four Vedas. They follow the Lord as "hounds of heaven, watchdogs of the ultimate Truth". They help the Lord in "hunting" and finding pure souls, wherever they may be born. Behind the Lord Dattatreya is the cow named Kamadhenu. This divine cow grants the wishes and desires of all those who seek the Lord. She grants all material and spiritual wishes of the Lord's devotees. The Lord stands in front of the Audumbara tree. This is the celestial wish -yielding tree. It fulfills the wishes of those who prostrate before it. Audumbara is the bearer of nectar, and wherever it is found, Lord Dattatreya is always found in it's shade. --------------- --- On Sat, 3/28/09, kasi viswanath <paluchuri_kasi wrote: kasi viswanath <paluchuri_kasiRe: [Dattaatreyem] Fw: Re: [Datta-Yoga] 'Datta Paduks pratishta' at Mumbai.Dattaatreyem Date: Saturday, March 28, 2009, 3:22 PM Jaya GuruDatta!, Maha Mantra Japa (2009) Parama Pujya Sri Swamiji made a Sankalpa during the 2008 Dattatreya Jayanti Celebrations that all devotees shall chant the following Maha Mantra: "Om Aim Hreem Sreem Shivarama Anaghaa Dattaya Namaha". Pujya Sri Swamiji has insisted repeatedly during His New Year message, on the importance of chanting the Maha Mantra. This chanting should continue until the Dattatreya Jayanti in the year 2009. This is a propitious Maha Mantra, whose incantation enables devotees to experience divine grace and mercy, effortlessly and swiftly. This mantra consists of sixteen syllables in four sections. The first section contains the beejaksharas Om, Aim, Hreem and Sreem. The second section has two Naama mantras, namely, Shiva and Rama. The third section refers to Anaghaa Datta; and the final section comprises of the salutation Namaha, which connotes the offering of respect, devotion and similar emotions. By chanting Namaha, devotees display their total devotion to God. OM: (A.U.M.) Omkara is formed by the sounds Akara, Ukara and Makara. These sounds constitute the foundation for the formation of the vyaahrutis (pronouncement of mystic words), the verses of the Gayatri mantra, the three Vedas and several other important braches of science. In fact, Om is the first and foremost basis for every sound and every science, and it is the quintessence of the Universe. Om is also known as Pranava. The Om is the progenitor vocabulary of each and every language in the world. Moreover, scholars have accepted that all languages emerged from Om. Accordingly, Om can be termed as the holy repository of sound; and it constitutes the armor of Para Brahma. Those who recognize her to be the energy of Dattatreya, obtain the true vision of the Lord and could transcend all sorrows. In other words, because of her, their sorrows (Agha) disappeared. This was another reason why Dattatreya named her as Anaghaa (one who removes sorrows). DATTAAYA NAMAHA: The Trinity - Brahma, Vishnu and Siva comprise the divine incarnation of Dattatreya. This incarnation of pure embodiment knowledge, The true purport this mantra is the offering of one’s heartfelt obeisance to Lord Dattatreya for emancipation. Namaha is derived from Sanskrit verb Na Ma. The derivative form denotes bowing or prostrating respectfully to another person. This act by devotes is construed as a deed of veneration, whereby the devotee displays respect toward his favorite deity. Each and every devotee must always chant this Maha Mantra, in order to attain the highest stages of devotion and spirituality. It can be chanted individually or collectively with a group of devotees. Such chanting will bestow excellent results upon the participants. Furthermore, this mantra not only provides positive outcomes to those who chant it, but it also enriches our nation and serves to establish world - wide peace.
