Guest guest
Queries based on my earlier astrological postings on Kethu and Ganapathy. Dear VS, Query 1: What is the Mahaganapathy Ashtadravya Tatwamu? I will explain it in a simple Vaideeka fashion of the Homam.Tantreekam is not necessary for you, now as it involves Kundalini-Vishayam. 1. Modakam represents the nAma-rUpa-kavaCchADita-saCchidAnandapUrnakam.In other words this represents the bliss of consciousness which is perfect and fulfilled(filled in the modakam with the 'pUrnam') in the name, form and covering of the deity. When this is given as an fire-oblation to the homAgnI, then Mahaganapathy-shakthi would start the cleansing process from the originator-chakra,mUlADArA. 2. Flaked rice('atukulu'/'avulu'): Flaked rice is first boiled in water and then mortared with a pestle. This represents the Samsaric Bandhanas(worldly ties) which the athma 'boils' and then the various problems and difficulties with which we are 'smashed and mortarted'. 3. Brown-Puffed rice('Vari-pelaalu'/'Avul-pori'): The Brown-Puffed rice shows a unique white colour peeping out of the brown shades upon frying. This is 'sanketha' for the sadhaka being burnt in the frying pan of sadhanas and then the sathwa-guna 'peeping out' in him. When someone keeps practices what one knows, suddenly one day as a quantum jump, something happens, some opening, some flowering inside happens. This is exactly how Brown-Puffed rice is made. 4. Nutritional flour/powder('Satthu-Pindi'/'Satthu-Maavu'): The nutritional powder, which is sometimes given to babies also, is made out of various sprouted pulses, fried a bit and then powdered. 'Nutritional powder' here represents symbolically the brainy-intellect, which is fried in sadhanas and then 'powdered' of its ego(which 'sprouts' upon even a bit of knowledge). This when put into the fire, gives the phalitham of the sadhanas and also the protection of Vighnaraja for all sadhanas. 5. Sugarcane: The rUpa-vikAra (habits/forms and perversions/distortions) of mind is offered by the offering of sugarcane. 6. Copra-coconut: The jeevan mukthi sthithi(the one who has salvation while in body) is embodied in this copra-coconut offering. The copra after ripening and drying, gets seperated form the shell. Thus, the Athma of a jeevan mukthi, 'de-shells' from the body(body consciousness) and then stays in perfect-manasollasa.This is what is represented here and desired, when offering this to the Homaagni, where Mahaganapthy sits(if the mantras are invoked properly) 7. Dark sesame seeds:The jeeva is represented by the dark sesame seeds. The dark sesame seeds represent the henious sins which we do, which is 'small' in nature when compared to the effulgence called God and dark(absence of light). 8. Bananas: The mind which is 'pari-pakva'('properly cooked') is represented by the Banana, the outer skin is easily removable anytime. In other words, once the karmas are over the 'pari-pakva-manah:' must easily come out from the body-consciousness and show its ripe fruit inside('wisdom'). To these 8 ingredients, honey, ghee and jaggery are added and then a 'mishrama'(mixture) is made, then it becomes fit for 'hOmAcAram'. Nambudiri performing the Tantreeka version of the Ganapathy Homam. In Tantreeka-Homam, one uses herbs too like mukkooty(representing the trikooty of srividya mantras).(see my postings 'Subramanya Dattoham')Now, that is something which you must learn from your Gurunatha. For now, let your 'chit-agni' 'digest' this much information. Query 2: What is Chaturavruthy Tarpanam? I had given a list of 'prethi-paddhathis'(pleasing rituals) to be done for each deity in my earlier posting called 'Subramanya Dattoham'. Ganapathy loves Tarpana-paddhathi.Ganapathy lives in the mUlAdhAra chakra with the fire of chit and this needs a cooling by way of one more pancha-Bhutham,water.This explanation was given by Rayagadda Garu. But to me it looks quite poetical, Kundalinique, nevertheless. This is a special kind of tarpana-paddhathi which gives Ayushya,Arogya,Stregth,Pusthi(fulfilment),Tushti(satisfaction),,intellect, fame, poetical abilities, profession and Mukthi. In this the Mahaa ganapathy Moolamantra's 4 aksharas are done for 4 paryayamas and the whole mantra is repeated 4 times. Totally 444 times mantrAvruthA is done and this is to be done during sunrise for 49 days(a mandala means 7 weeks). Some do it for 40 days too. Ksheera-tarpanam can also be done.(Tarpana with milk). This gives vishesha-shanthi. One site online I remember seeing, that one should make a turmeric ganapathy and start pouring water on it and dissolve it and use the turmeric. This is total nonsense, this just bespeaks of the person's ignorance. You know very well, whom Im referring to.He claims this is the Ganapathy Tarpana Paddhathi! One must start with Achamanam, Pranayaamam,Desha-kaala-sankeerthanam,sankalpam,etc Then one must take water or milk(cow's milk alone) and then one must mix, Gandha-akshathaa, onemjst recite two mantra verses and then one must perform the 'Krom'-ankusha mudra and then from 'aakasha' an 'Aavahanam'(invocation) is made. Then 'Vam'(Beeja-sed syllable) must be chanted 7 times and the Jalam/Ksheeram must be energized(Abhimantritham) Then Shree Lakshmi Ganapathi Yantra is scribed onto a well cleaned copper plate using pure sandalwood powder. One must invoke onto the yantra Siddha-lakshmi-sahitha-Ganapathi. In this context, I must add that one Vaishnavite 'saint' recently said that 'Lakshmi Ganapathi' is a nonsensical term as Lakshmi is the 'wife' of Vishnu and not Ganapathy. This is a gross misunderstanding of the terms 'Lakshmi'(which means prosperity) and 'Ganapathy'.Such statements are given because anyone easily respects a person who is criticizing(which is the easiest path to become a 'great intellect') and also take perverse pleasure in hearing someone bashup some one or some religious group. Anyways, it is useless to argue with such 'Vaishnavites' but Iam warning you now itself lest you go for his words and arguments. Coming back to our topic: The yanthra is then worshipped(archana) with turmeric, sandalwood powder and akshatha(mantrically energized rice mixed with kumkuma, turmeric, a bit of javadhoo and sandalwood powder) and flowers(Gannera flowers which are the favourite of Ganapathy) I would later supply you with the yanthra by way of a pdf but do not start the procedure right away unless you get the Lakshmi-ganapathi mantra initiation from my Gurunathar. Then you have to perform, the swadehapurvaka-poorvangaanyaasam and then chant the mantra 28 times and then start the Chaturaavruthy Tarpanam. After the Tarpanam, you have to do the Uttara-nyaasam and japa-samaprpanam. In the text 3 means : 'Sreem Hreem Kleem'(Remember this) (This is not how it looks, I have just added an image here for visual appeal) Swasthika Padmam(Swasthika Mandalam) drawn by Kerala Nambudiris is not necessary for this. Many of them just draw and leave it but Prapanchasaara sangraha Geeravaanendra sarasvathy prescribes a mantraic ritual and placement of a "deepapu kundemu"(Kutthuvilakku) Rice powder, turmeric are used. This is a sort of mandala. After the Mandala is prepared meticulously, you must sit in each direction and do the mantra for a prescribed number of times, this is unnecessary prolonging of the ritual."Athivrusthi-anaavrusthi" You may do the Ganesha-priya-saptha-mudraa-lakshanam as in Dantamudraa, paasamudraa, ankusamudraa, vighnamudraa, parashumudraa, laddookamudraa and beejamudraa at appropriate places.Even these mudras need initiation.Get the permission from our Gurunathar and I would teach you hwo to do the mudras. "Danta paasaamkusha vighna parashu laddukaahvaya Beejaapooraahvayaa chethiganeshasya priyaa mathaa" Instead of asking so many questions my dear brother, for every e-mail. I request you to shuffle your feet from your cozy IIT hostel room and learn and do these procedures.Reading, one can do endlessly and it benefits you not, rather acts as a detriment to your progress by creating what I call 'complacent-egoistic-inertia' Anyways, while you come to visit me, please visit the areas inside IIT-Chennai forest campus and bring me the herbs which I mentioned last e-mail.I will narrate the uses to you when you come.
