Dear Sridhar Garu,

I would like to answer this question as Subramanyam Garu might be busy. And if this question is not answered you might feel bad that you have been thwarted and this also gives me an important chance to clear certain doubts which people following our religion have as to Who is the Greatest?, Who is the Creator/Creatrix?, etc

Kashaayavastram Kara-Danda-Dharinam,

Kamandulum Padmakare'na Shankham.

Chakram Gadhaabhushitha Bhooshanaadyam

Shreepaadaraajam Sharanam Prapadye'!

Your doubt has arisen because you saw the below representation made in the site(which Subramanyam Garu has cut-paste-copied as He explained in the end).

Let me understand your dilemma fully by defining your question properly for me to understand to be in a better position to reply.

In Sripada Vallabha Charitramu in the Vishwavadhnulu story, Sripada Garu says "He" is the "Mahasankalpam" to create the "Mahayoni" from which all the Trimurthis came.

Your dilemma is that: You see Lord Datta being a parcel of a bigger entity called GOD and this is not palatable to you as you feel that Datta is the super-set of GOD and not viceversa.

Now, when Sripada Vallabha says "He" , He meant Lord Dattatreya in the Sacred text.

Now, Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Geetha says thus:

“The whole cosmic order is under me. By my will it is manifested again and again, and by my will it is annihilated at the end” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 9.8)

He thus keeps saying in a similar manner like Sripada SriVallabha to Arjuna.Remember this for now:

Lord Krishna = Vishnu Avatara

Sripada Sri Vallabha Garu= Datta Avatara

Lord Hanuman in another place extols the greatness of Lord Rama(Vishnu Avatara) in Ramayan as the sole creator of God.

Why for that matter Lord Datta Himself says to Parashurama in Tripura that the deity is greater in so many words than Him!

Any Avatara purusha you take, seems to be the sole creator of the Universe.Who then is the real creator of the universe, the Mahasankalpam and the Mahayoni from which all came into being?

The Upanishads discuss creation at a philosophical level, quite different from some of the hymns of the Riga Veda and also different from the narratives of creation in the later Puranas.

The fundamental point is that life or consciousness cannot evolve from matter unless matter has the innate potential to provide life and consciousness. Similarly Divine Bliss cannot be the end of evolution unless it is present in the beginning, even if not in a manifest form. Evolution proceeds by the removal of obstruction to move to a higher plane. Hence life, consciousness and divinity are innate in all matter. When the obstruction to life is removed matter takes the form of living beings. When the obstruction to consciousness is removed matter takes the forms of animals. When the obstruction to reasoning is removed matter takes the forms of humans. When the obstruction to divinity is removed humans realize their divine aspect.

The Chandogya Upanishad states that the primary substance (God) manifests itself in the “created” universe. The Brihadaranyaka Upanishad states the same thing in a more imaginative way. Prajapati divides himself into male and female and thus from within himself he draws forth everything that exited, exists or will exist.

The point that God is not distinct from the universe cannot be overstated. The dualism between the creator and the created, though prevalent in certain schools of Hindu philosophy, is not advocated in the Upanishads. God is not an omnipotent mechanic creating the universe from preexistent matter. Creation and destruction are the changing manifestations of God. These changes are continuous as can be seen from the births and deaths of humans on earth or of galaxies in outer space. Creation did not happen. It is happening.

There are several creation myths in Hinduism, but these have to be seen from the perspective of the philosophy of the Upanishads alone.

These are simplified, imaginative presentations of the truth intended to either aid comprehension of a complex phenomenon or to present it with artistic embellishment.

Now, how would Sripada Vallabha explain all this to a layman? By emphasizing on the Datta-Tatwa.

This is my humble take on this.

What He says in the Charitra chapter is to be perceived from the angle mentioned supra.

They are Sooktha-Moukthikas to emphasize the greatness of God and God is understood by His people in the form of Datta and thus the greatness is emphasized thus for that particular listener.

Words of a Muni, sage,Yogi,Avatara Purusha are to be understood in the context in which it is said and to whom it is said and for what purpose.A total contextual analysis is to be made.

Else, a BLIND ACCEPTANCE That Datta is the ultimate GOD is needed.Literate people like us read so many articles and books and thus get perturbed when some thing 'Vyathireka' is seen to our long chrished beliefs. Finally we get confused.

That is why Dattatreya dedicated an entire chapter in Tripura Rahasyam on Vichara

Please do not bothered as to who is ultimate. Please continue to believe in Dattatreya for He would save you and give you salvation. This is sure.

I can go on and on but I think this will suffice for now...

Jaya Guru Deva Datta!

Digambara, digambara, Sreepada vallabha digambara" Digambara, Digambara, Avadhutachintana digambara!

Yours yogically,
