Guest guest
respected elders, as per your advice, i started chanting dattastavam 11 times daily. I do not know whether it is happening only to me or is that i am not doing something properly. After chanting datta stavam, i am feeling very irritated, i end up quarelling with my husband. i lose temper and i dont have any control on my words. Please advice why it is happening to me. I am doing the chanting for the good health of my sister, my parents and for wellbeing of my husband. However, with these fights i am not able to focus and complete the mandala chanting or 21 days chanting. Recently i started reading guru charitra, 1 st day went well, second day same problem - i am unable to focus or complete. I am finding it really difficult to make up my mind to do chanting. pls guide me. regards,
Guest guest
Dear Friend, Your situation is not uncommon. There is nothing wrong per se in your efforts to do "Datta Stavam". The interruptions may be due to several reasons. 1. The time you select for doing the recitation may not be optimal. Find out another time of the day when the obstacles are minimum. 2. At times, even though your 'sankalpa" to do the prayers is good, it also needs the blessings of Lord Datta/Sainath to complete the prayer. Pray and ask for "kriya sakthi" (ability to complete the task). 3. For reading GC, I recommend early morning hours. I work full-time from 8 to 6 pm here in USA and therefore I do the daily readings of GC (7 or 8 chapters) from 5 am to 7 am when it is peaceful, quiet and calm. Instead of trying to recite Datta Stavam 11 times a day, try reading this simple shloka once. "Digambara Digambara Sripadavallabha Digambara Digambara Digambara Avadhoota Chintana Digambara" It will bring you peace and comfort. Good Luck. regards, Sriram arunav26 <arunav26 wrote: respected elders,as per your advice, i started chanting dattastavam 11 times daily. Guest guest
Dear Aruna,Sai Ram. Sri Guru Datta. Sometimes, Sri Guru tests your sraddha and saburi. So, don't worry and continue with a prayer to Sri Guru to help you with your sadhana. Don't worry about interruptions. When ever you feel irritable, mentally repeat Sai Ram and or Sri Guru Datta. During your sadhana, pl. avoid spicy food and stick to bland and or sweet food. Prepare the normal food for others!Blessings.Swamy--- On Mon, 6/2/08, arunav26 <arunav26 wrote:arunav26 <arunav26[smarthrugaami-Dattavaibhavam] Query on datta stavam and guru charitra readingSmarthrugaami-Dattavaibhavam Date: Monday, June 2, 2008, 12:41 PM respected elders, as per your advice, i started chanting dattastavam 11 times daily. Guest guest
Dear Aruna Ma, Yes, do check on your pronunciation with some learned person. Chanting the litany 11 times does offer solutions but that does not mean at the cost of minimal niyamas. One of the major niyamas to be cultivated is being free of anger and peaceful. Only a peaceful mind can absorb the vibrations of a mantra/litany better as it is in the Alpha state(scientifically speaking). Forgiveness(Kshama) and compassion(Daya) are two of the trais which every Datta-devotee must cultivate. Doing a ritual and expecting a miraculous result without first keeping "our home" clean is like to fill a hole ridden-pot with water! ("Our home" means our mind/heart) Lord Dattatreya is the Avadhuta of highest degree, who is beyond all disciplines and formalities and teaches the highest teaching of freedom, not only from Desires and Karma but also from sectariansim, fanaticism, superstitions and formalities i.e this path is good and that Path is bad etc. and the basic reality that all this is God and everything is God is the "Great Self" in every one of Us.But this does not mean He is a libertine in all respects. One should try to follow what He says and not what He does. Datta in us says through His principal tenets of the Datta-cult: 1.Be peaceful-I will take care.('To one who has attained equanimity, there is nothing but Unity in Diversity'--Tripura Rahasyam) 2. Everyone should know himself first, should know his own reality which is but God. 3. One should know the relationship between Man, god and Creation- the underlying kinship, unity and oneness of these three Entities. The truth is:-: All beings in their essence, are Brahman. Brahman is the immanent and all pervading reality in all. It is the origin, the support and sustenance of all. 4.To attain to a vision, to be able to discern the truth of things, one should sublimitate one's ego through renunciation and Yoga. Ego vanquished, one becomes God Himself. He will then cognise the non-dual self as the only Reality. 5. To attain the Supreme state, Guru's grace is indispensable. One has to surrender oneself totally and unreservedly at the Feet of the Guru. Guru's grace holds before the individual the "Mirror of Gnana" in which he can cognise the Reality, the Brahman, that is the Self of All. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I know the above sound like bladderdash and high-sounding stuff to many. But then let us start form the beginning, thats a good place to begin, I guess! If I were to explain these Datta-pancha-satyam to my 2 year old daughter, how will I do it? 1. Be peaceful, dont fight with your mom! 2.If you are angry, first question yourself whether you have done anything wrong. 3. Your mother and the other kid with whom you are playing have the same feelings as yours, because they are also like you! 4. Don't shout Amma! and show that you are great(children don't understand word like Ego and stuff!). Daddy won't like it! 5. Come here my child! Iam your Guru for now and listen to me.Listen to Nanna, I will teach you how to be calm. And thus, my daughter follows what I say and maybe even gives her toy(you can substitute this word "toy" with anything you like in an adult manner--Ego,time,smile,etc) and feels happy! And my daughter is confused why adults fight like this? When she can follow the tenets of Datta-philosophy easily when her father(me) explains to her. ********************************** To blame the tool is the mark of a bad toolsman. A Litany when chanted with faith will produce lot of positive energy. To seek first pece of mind and then chant is not a proper approach. The litany is being chanted for peace. Initially, the mind behaves like a drunken monkey and thus torments you like this.Control it first, put some effort first and then the effortless effort state will follow. But then there must be some effort first... Guest guest
Jai Guru Datta Dear Madam/Sir, As I went through this mail, I felt inspired to share an experience that I had recently. A colleague of mine was looking for a good school to work in .As he has two children to support, he could not make both ends meet with the paltry sum that he was being paid for his sincere services in the institution he was working in. I worked in the same place for about 6 months and quit the job as soon as I got a better one. But, I could understand the suffering he was going through. We used to discuss matters pertaining to one's Prarabhdha Karma, Guru's Grace etc. He used to trust my words like a small child! I used to advocate Bhakti and tell him that God will give what each one deserves without us pleading for it. One day, when I saw that he was on the brink of losing his faith, I was moved by his plight .It is in the nature of human beings to expect results from God ........when the "earthly good" does not happen then one tries to find alibis not to pray at all................. Somehow, I gave him the copy of the hand written version of Datta Stavan which I keep in my pooja. He read it sincerely along with me three times. Then, I told him that he could take it and recite it after bath and try to teach his children and wife the same. What happened within 6 days is incredible. He has got a job in a place of repute and for a better salary that would help him keep his family going. He has been freed from the daily worry syndrome given the inflationary pressures! He has found joy in the effects of the Stavam. Not only has his faith in GOD been reinforced , it will never waver again in the face of adversities that are beyond one's control. He came back beaming with happiness expressing his gratitude. Only yesterday, I told him, that Sree Guru Datta is Compassionate. It is HE who hears everyone and every thought and every action. When you are sincere in your pleas to HIM, surely HE listens like no one else can. Today, my colleague has got a better job and he is ready to work harder............ It gives me joy to think that Datta Stavan has helped a person who never knew anything about the Stavan. So, what more shall I say about the goodness of the Stavan ........it is self-explanatory. I read it regularly ,for it brings me joy.I recite it because it gives me a sense of satisfaction. If words can describe HIS GREATNESS, then why not read those words with love and devotion. Communicating with GOD does not call for any barriers. Naam Smaran or any other form of praising the Almighty is the best way to be nearer HIM. So, I hope this mail will inspire all those who seek the Grace of Dutta . Jai Guru. Guest guest
Dear Respected sir / MAdam, Thank you for your advice and assuring words. I did not chant the stotram nor did guru charitra reading because my mind was totally confused and i was unable to do anything. I will take all your advices and ensure to start afresh this week again with a good mind and with an intention to complete with devotion. I shall keep my experiences if any posted. Thank you once again for your precious time and advice.
