Guest guest
Respected and beloved Shreeramji, I had an opportunity to talk with an exponent in Mantra Sashtra who is one of the senior Shrividya upasaka. while he was narrating about mantras, he told me that after getting initiation, one can start doing japa, doing Nysa on Rishi and Chandas and dhyana. Anganyas and Karanyas are only optional. Nowhere in mantra sashtra, it is mentioned that Anganyas and Karanyas are compulsory, he opines. But I come to understand that for a mantra japa, nysa, dhyana, anganyasa and karnyasa are completely required. Can you offer your valuable opinion in this regard ? Thanking you, N.S.Venkhataraman
Guest guest
Respected sir, Srividya Deeksha is different in different sampradayas. If your Srividya Guru says, it is not necessary, then it is necessary. Nyasas infuse the body with divinity and prepare it for meditation and japa. The types of nyasa most often encountered in tantrika ritual are Rishi Nyasa, Kara (hand) Nyasa, Matrika Nyasa and Sadanga Nyasa. Though the Shastras do not perse say it is cumpulsory many tantric texts including Nityotsavam lay great emphasis on the practice of Nyasas. So, you re right in your thinking. To get the Nyasas too as a deeksha from Guru would be fantastic but many a time Guru asks the disciple to learn it from a Gurubratha or a text with His guidance. To do Srividya Puja/Japa without Nyasas will not yield any substantial results(or at the best yield delayed results). However, as in everything, your preceptor should guide you properly in all these. A proper Guru-Parampara will make things even clearer as one need not lean on any texts and follow the parampara aadesha. Hraum Guruvaashritarakshanaaya namaha!
