Dear R Ma,

You can send individual emails. No problem with that.

Are you familiar with the story about Socrates where a young man came to him near a lake and asked Socrates to teach him how to acquire wisdom? Socrates grabbed the man and plunged his head under the water. As the young man struggled for his life, Socrates continued to forcibly hold him under the water. Finally, Socrates let him up to breathe, and when the man, gasping for breath, asked why Socrates nearly drowned him, Socrates replied, "When your desire for wisdom is as great as your desire to breathe, then you will find wisdom."

I love that story. I don't know if it's actually true, but it sure makes a great point. If your motivation for a goal is high enough (as compelling as the desire for air, food, and water), then you're virtually assured of success if the goal is possible at all. However, in most cases our motivation to achieve a goal isn't anywhere near the level of biological need.

Sai Baba is within you, Rajagopala Swamy is within you, Chidvalasanda is with you, Yogananda is within you, Buddha is within you .. and Jesus. correctly pronounced, says "Yes-us" .. or, "Yes-you"....they are all within youThese archetypes exist in you as your true SELF and what you are drawn towards is their reflection.

The inner teacher comes when the "little ego" is ready. What this "Little ego" is I will deal later in another posting.

Other day I met someone to talk about meditation. She said she wants help because she is really tensed up due to family problems. Talks led from one topic to another and I casually mentioned over a conversation that "Both Priest and Prostitute have equal possibilities to attain God". The moment I said that she immediately got up and said "at least I expected you to say bad things about whore and not compare them with priest".

She also said "I expected you to be a decent guy"... and she was disappointed as I spoke against her beliefs. finally she decided I am not he right guy to talk about meditation because I don't match her requirements of how a teacher should be.(Jeans clad and Calvinklien Glasses exactly did not fit her form of Guru! Ha!) She had already decided what she wanted to hear from me. Unless I followed her expected path, she was not ready to listen to me.

Most of you have similar issues. You already prepared yourself for God a & Guru. God and Guru happens to you only when you are open and carry no prejudice. You are not ready to accept Guru or God with open arms. You have already decided what Guru & GOD should be and must be.

Now the Pope, Maulvis, Shankaracharyas of the world are in dilemma. The moment they say good things about other religions, People will remove from their post and finish them off. Even if they want to – Pope cannot talk about Mohammad, Maulvi cannot talk about Mary, Shakaracharya cannot talk about Buddha! Suddenly religion and religious leaders are shaped by followers and not the other way round. This is the reason why Religion has been stagnated for so long. Suddenly everyone wants to hold on to scriptures, religions, Gurus. No one wants to know truth, because truth requires a rebel character and lonely journey. In a world of fast food you need ready made answers and you live in a world of ready made answers.

An Indian Mystic says- "Unless you drop your "guru", you cannot become his disciple"!This is a profound statement. One must ponder on these words deeply.

According to the Deval Smriti there can be eleven kinds of gurus and according to Nama Chintamani there are ten types. According to his function gurus are categorized as

rishi

acharyam

upadhya

kulapati

mantravetta

Vaishnavite traditions usually categorize gurus as:

vartma-pradarshaka guru (any person who first shows one the path)

shiksha guru

diksha guru

sannyasa guru (who initiates one into sannyasa order)

caittya guru (God in the heart as Paramatman)

You may call Him but to get initiation you have personally go to Chennai.I do not know whether you can make it from Chicago to Chennai but if the fire inside is strong then you will.

Yours yogically,

Shreeram Balijepalli
