Guest guest
Jai Gurudevadatta! Ganesh Puraan scriptures describe infant Kartavirya at birth as having no limbs. Kartavirya sought the advice of the elders. Then he went on a quest to a mountain top to pray to the God Dattatreya for his blessings. King karthaveerya succeeded in the tests of Lord Dattatreya. Lord Dattatreya will always test the intensity of the devotion of the devotees. Dattatreya finally appeared and blessed his devotee with a thousand powerful hands. He was also obtained several boons from Lord Dattatreya. Mighty Sahasrarjun then conquered all the known and unknown oversea kingdoms. In reference to his powerful hands Sahasrarjun is addressed as Sahasrabahu, Sahasrabujhadhari etc.. He is also referred to as Rajarajeshwar, Kartavirya, Kartyviryarjun, Kritaviryanandan, Parakrami Arjun, Haihayaraja, Dashagrivajayi, Nagapal etc. He was known to be one of the seven greatest emperors that had ever lived. That is the power of Lord Dattatreya. Dattatreya became his mentor as well as his guru (teacher) and guided him during his entire life. The God Vishnu’s Chakra had one thousand spikes. Sahasrarjun was the avaatar of Chakra, each spoke of it represented his hand. King Karthaveerya ruled his kingdom for somany thousands of years and instructed his people to recite dattanama always and to perform Anaghastami vratha always. DIGAMBARA DIGAMBARA SHREE PAADA VALLABHA DIGAMBARA is the powerful mantra of Lord Dattatreya which was given by Shree Vasudevananda saraswathy swamy. He has given instructions to his servants and all bhaktas of lord Dattatreya to recite it at all times, then Lord Dattatreya will take care of his servants in all aspects. We request all the willing devotees to recite the above mantra and read Shree Gurucharitra parayan atleast one chapter perday or sapthaha deeksha and perform shree dattapuja for the blessings of Jagadguru Dattabhagavan. Please see the following photograph who are performing Dattapuja in California. No caste is there, no creed is there, no gender is there, no limitations are there for Dattapuja. Perform the seva to lord dattatreya and have the blessings of Dattamaharaj. AVADHOOTHA CHINTHANA SHREE GURUDEVADATTA..... Guest guest
Sir, I wish to make a sincere query regarding GURU CHARITRAM. I was told by an elderly soul outside the Dutta Swami Samarth Temple,Sadashivpeth Pune that ladies are not to read the above said as it is a SIDDHA GRANTH. I have 3 copies of it in my collection and I do read it . The English version is so good. Now, I feel somewhat affected by that person's advice. I do not know whether to believe this advice or ignore it! So, I wish to ask you : are there any such Dont's for ladies ? Are ladies allowed to read SREE GURU CHARITRAM? Please help me with a clarification.I do not want to disobey any such shastraic rule ........knowingly! Waiting for your reply. Guest guest
Hello, Not to take away the beauty of greatness of Lord Dattatreya. The reason Kartavirya has 1000 hands is because he is the incarnation of Sudarshana Chakra on the Hands of Lord Vishnu. Sudarshana Chakra, is faster than the mind can think of. One chakra got proud of the steadfastness, so Lord Vishnu smiled, and so he said to that chakra, lets see, ( a small proud ness, made the chakra to fall on earth to be born as a mortal ) and he was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu, and Lord Dattatreya was his guru ( how he became guru, this piece of story I don't know). He used to take care of his citizens even before they approaced him with troubles. That is the reason we have the Kaartaviryarjuna Stotra for removal of obstacles, if you are being harrased by either spouses ( it works ), or if you are having a threat of being stolen, that mantra works wonders. He was a good king till, he did that henious thing of killing Bhargava ( Parasurama's) father. Any how just wanted to share the story. Guest guest
Dear Amma, Thankyou Amma for thinking upon my posting. First, the story what you have said is interesting and it is not exactly correct because the parents of Karthaveerraarjuna did not go to Sahyadri to meditate on Lord Dattatreya.Rather they prayed to Ganapapthy at a Moolasthana in Maharashtra (it is also premised that the cult of Ganesha cameforth because of their concerted efforts) and later upon the guidance of Ganesha, Karthaveeraarjuna embraced a parivrajaka marga(sanyasi marga whereby one keeps moving form place to place to meditate) and then went to Sahyaadri Parvatha Himself and started to pray. Second a discrepancy of the story which is unsupported by either Datta purana, Karthaveerarjuna Charitra or Bhargava Charitra--The baby was not born with thousand arms(weak or otherwise) but was born with no arms(a deformity) which was later rectified by Lord Dattatreya. Third discrepancy again unsupported anywhere the question of Sudarshana chakra being " taught' a lesson does not come anywhere because a Vishnu-amsikam will never go against a Vishnu amsa (Dattatreya) and hence the fight between Karthaveeraarjuna was purely an egoistical fight ending in the death of Him under Lord Dattatreya's hands and thus He attaining moksha according to Datta- BhakthaVijayam. Also, anything big used to be collated with the number 1000 and hence the number of spokes of Sudarshana being 1000 was attributed to Karthaveerarjuna(and Lord Dattatreya with a central face of Vishnu also formed a thetical favour for the stance). In the power of rhetoric and trying to support one's path or God or Goddess(in mycase) one should not play with truth and thus subvert truth. Popularizing the name of God in a divine way is onething whereas Propogandizing the same name is different. Because the original truth(the word original need not be placed before truth as Truth is always original but Iam placing a tautology anyways) will be even puissant and man-made stories or folkstories will lessen the original glory. Also,There is nothing worng in presenting different views and cautiously saying it was proposed by various people or texts but to outright proscribe(or anti-scribe) something is not called for. Finally, frankly speaking, I think that whether thousand arms of Karthaveeraarjuna was given by Datta or by virtue of His being a Sudarshana Avatara or because of the symbolic nature is plain non-issue for me. All that matters is how devoted he was to Lord Dattatreya and how the Lord showered His benediction upon Him. Let us all aspire for this benediction, what do you say Amma?
