Guest guest Posted January 21, 2007 Report Share Posted January 21, 2007 SRIPADA SRIVALLABHA CHARITA AMRUTAM-CHAPTER I THE STORY OF VYAGHYESWARA SARMA ORIGINALLY WRITTEN IN SANSKRIT BY SANKARA BHATT The writer is SANKAR BHATT who is a smartha brahmin & Bharadwajasa Gothram subject hailing from Karnataka.After offering salutations to SRI GANESHA,SRI MAHA SARASWATI,to all the GURUS,to SRI KRISHNA & to all the Gods & Goddesses,he confesses that to desribe in writing the maha leelas of SRIPADA SRIVALLABHA was nigh an impossible task to even maha pandits & for him who is not knowledgeable of the vedas & holy scriptures, to get emboldened to attempt to write about the LORD is sheerly due to the LORD's grace & LORD's WILL.He humbly & reverentially surrenders to the LORD's FEET & prays that HE should lead him in his writings. Sankar Bhatt went to UDIPI to seek darshan of LORD KRISHNA.After having the LORD KRISHNA's darshan,he wasoredered to go to Kanyakumari to seek darshan of Goddess KANYAKAPARAMESWARI.He was praying to the Goddess with a red flower in his hand and offered it to the Goddess.At this,the Goddess was immensely pleased & ordered him to go to KURWAPURAM & take darshan of SRIPADA SRIVALLABH there after which he would attain spiritual success. Sankar Bhatt decided to go to KURWAPURAM as per the Goddesses's instructions.He reached MARUTWA MALAI on his way.it is believed that while Hanuan was carrying the SANJEEVANI parvat,a part of it fell in this place .This malai or hillock is considered a very sacred place and there were many holy ascetics meditating in the caves of this mountain.Sankar Bhatt decided to take their darshan.He approache a cave & saw a tiger guarding the entrance.On seeing this ferocious looking tiger,he got panicky & immediately uttered "SRI PADA SRI VALLABHA"loudly.At this the tiger calmed down & out of the cave came an old monk.He congratulated Sankara Bhatt on being so fotunate to be on the path of seeking SRIPADA SRIVALLABHA's darshan which was possible to only those who performed long penance.He introduced the tiger as a JNANI & asked Sankar Bhatt to bow to him.When Sankar Bhatt bowed to the tiger,it uttered "OM" loudly & the whole mountain reverberated with "SREEPADA RAJAM SARANM PRAPADYE ".The tiger immediately turned into a bright well built human being THen disappeard after bowing to both of them.The old monk invited Sankar Bhatt into his den.He performed a yagna & then told Sankar Bhatt that he would surely get SREEPADA SREEVALLABHA's darshan as he had witnessed the entire youg ritual & is a reward for several good deeds done over several past births.Sankar Bhatt was very happy & asked the old monk to tell him who SRIPADA SRIVALLABHA whom the Goddess KANYAKAPARAMESWAI orderd him to seek darshan who was the man in the guise of the tiger guarding his cave entrance. The old monk said that the man in the guise of the tiger was VYAGYESHWARA SARMA ,a brahmin from ATREYAPURAM in East Godavari district and a KASYAPASA gothram subject.Although his parents were vedic scholars,the boy was imbecile and could only utter "VYAGHYESWARA SARMA AHAMBHO ABHIVAYEY" which means I am VYAGHYESWARA SARMA.He was the butt of all jokes in his village & was teased by others.One day VS had a dream in which he saw a very bright young lad approachig him and ordering him to go to Badarikaranyam in the Himalayas to seek vedic knowledge.Accordingly VS left for BADRIKARANYA & reached there accompanied by a dog all through his journey.He met a great sage who told him that the dog accompanying him was his past birth's good deeds form & that he should take bath in URVALIKUNDAM.VS took bath accordingly in Urvalikundam & then the sage told him that was happening was due to the grace of SRIPADA SRIVALLABHA.To this VS enquired who this SRIPADA SRIVALLABHA is/was.The old sage then told VS that in TRETAYUGAM,BHARADWAJA Maharshi performed SAVITRI KATHAKA CHAYANAM - a very great yagnam in Pithapuram.Pleased with this yagna,SIVA & PARVATI appeared behore him & asked him to ask them a boon.They blessed that several great scholars,noble men & pious people would be born in Pithapuram in the Bharadwajasa clan & that when kali Yuga is ending,LORD DATTATREYA would take an incarnation as SRIPADA SREEVALLABHA & be born there.And that SRIPADA SRIVALLABHA would cleanse all of their sins & show them the path to liberation.Since LORD DATTA used tiger skin as his seat,Vyagyeshwar Sarma decided to pray until he was transformed into a tiger.He was accordingly changed into a tiger form by the LORD.And LORD DATTA rode on this tiger & reached Kurwapuram.The VS prayed to the lord that he wished to offer his life to the LORD and that the LORD should use his own skin as his seat for ever.The Lord then said "MAY IT BE SO" and Vyagyeswara Sarma's skin became the LORD's AASAN.Thus a devout devotee was granted liberation or Moksha by his LOVING LORD DATTATRYA in his avatar as Sripada Srivallabha-----Fight back spam!
