I would suggest that since there are several devotees of Lord Datta

Prabhu, who would like to know more about his leelas, and also about

the important pilgrim centres associated with Shree Datta Prabhu, it

would be better our group gives out the list of Datta Kshetras along

with approach route details.

Once this is done then our group members can either conduct or join

tours during weekends / holidays from important locations and can

assemble at different kshetras each time and enjoy the company of

Datta Bandhus and can receive the Divine Grace of Lord Datta.

Shree Guru Datta give us all an oppurtunity to know about Datta

Kshetras and to visit them.

Sairam Dr.Prasadji,

Namaskarams at the feet of DattaGuru and Baba

AS i was reading through the message i felt very bad at the sad

state of our Dattatreya temples but as i came to the end i felt that

you are a blessed devotee of Dattatreya as you had the good fortune

of seeing SakshathDattatreya in the form of a Dog (Is he not

surrounded by 4 dogs representing 4 vedas). When you visit Gangapur

please offer my namaskarams at the feet of Gururaya.

Dattam Bhaje,

Vasanthi

SITARAMBAGH in HYDERABAD.It is on top of a small hillock & is very

nicely located in a vantage view point of Hyderabad.I decided to

visit at least one DATTA TEMPLE every THURSDAY & this took me there

today. The temple seems to be under renovation now as some

construction work is going on there.I recited the DATTA STAVA 9

times in front of LORD DATTATREYA & returned.Next week hopefully,I

plan to visit GANGAPUR.I plan to leave by car around 5 am & reach

there by 9am,take bath in the rivers Bhima & Amaraja,do pradakshinas

around the Audumbar tree, then visit the temple & stay there during

Bikshatana time & return to Hyd by about 6pm the same day.If anyone

is interested in joining me,please contact me on Tel 9246524570.We

cud plan well in advance so that we cud have a pleasant & memorable

trip.

Temple that I have visited so far seems to be in SIDHILAVASTHA-

dilapidated state. No upkeep,no signs of regular poojas,no signs of

regular temple management by responsible Trust members, poor hygienic

conditions,no proper facilities for the devotees visiting the temple

& above all they seem to be havens for drug peddlars/addicts &

drunkards and lot of riff raff cround these temples exploiting the

devotees.WHY S IT SO ? HAVE WE AS DEVOTEES FAILED OUR LORD WHO HAS

GIVEN US ALL SO MUCH ?.The story is the same in Pithapuram near

Kakinada,Gangapur & now in Hyderabad.I feel this is probably b'cos

we devotees have NOT contributed in any way for the upkeep of these

temples.I remember SHIRDI was somewhat like this in 1976 when I

first visited, though NOT AS BAD.If Shirdi cud be renovated &

improved to the present state, why NOT THESE DATTA TEMPLES ?.It is

appalling to see that there is not even a regular temple priest who

is

this mng did'nt seem to have taken a bath, did NOT have even tilak on

his forehead forget the holy JANDHYAM or poonal !.There was an

alsatian dog roaming in & out of the temple.HOW CAN WE FEEL SNCTITY

OF THESE TEMPLES IF SO MAINTAINED? Something for all of us to think

over deeply & do something worthwhile before they disappear into

oblivion.

Dear Shri Prasad,

Sai Ram. Jai Guru Deva Datta. Thanks for sharing. Pl. permit me to

offer you a slightly different perception.

Which temple in Pithapuram did you visit which you felt is in

dilapitdated condition? I visited Pithapuram on 19th March of this

year. There is Kukkuteswara Swamy Temple in which there is a

Swayambhu Datta idol. The temple is well maintained. Then there is

Datta-Anagha temple built by Sri Ganapathi Sachidananda Swamy and

that is quite new and well maintained. Then we have the Sripada

Vallabha Maha Samsthanam temple near Sri Venu Gopala Swamy temple.

This temple is about 10 to 20 years old and is very well maintained.

The temple at Ganagapur (the Nirguna Paduka Matham) has a few years

been refurbished (between 1998 to say last year - I have been a

regular visitor to that temple). The temple priests are rather

commercial but otherwise quite knowledgeable.

The temple at Sitarambagh I am yet to visit though I stay very near

to that place. The dog which you saw roaming is Lord Datta or one of

His disciples! As you are no doubt aware, Datta follows the avadhuta

sampradaya also and an avadhuta is beyond the normal dos and don'ts

of society. So, the pujari is also of that sampradaya!

I am glad that you are visiting Ganagapur shortly. Since Thursday is

a working day for me, I can't join you much as I wish to do.

With blessings and best wishes (I feel I am elder to you, so I feel

blessings are OK, if not, my apologies),

Swamy

P.S: Were you in NIMS about 10 years ago? My wife was consulting one

Dr. Prasad at that time. Sai Ram. God bless you.
