Margaseersha Bahula Ashtami is a famous day for the devotees of Lord Dattatreya. The day is termed as "ANAGHAASHTAMI". The day is popularised due to the king Kaarthaveeryarjuna. He performed penance for so many years for Lord Dattatreya. Earlier he was a handicapped person and he was succeded in the tests of Lord dattatreya. Dattamaharaj gave number of boons to the king like1. 1000 arms, 2.he is cable of walk on any place even sky, water etc,, 3.he has to be defeated by a person greater than him in future 4. he has to know the inner thinking of his people of the kingdom in advance 5. he should have more bhakthi on lord dattreya etc., These type of boons were granted by Dattaguru and Lord vishnu took the avathara of Parasurama to kill Karthaveeryarjuna and got SALVATION at the end. All the boons were granted by Dattabhagawan to Karthaveeryarjuna on the day of Margaseersha bahula ashtami and the day is termed as Anaghaashtami. Aghamu means sin. Anagha means without sin. Anaghamatha is nothing but Sakthi of Lord dattatreya. So the day is verymuch liked by Dattatreya. Whoever perform the puja to Lord dattatreya on this day with shodasopachara, by applying sandal paste, flowers, dhoop, deep, naivedya etc., to datta paduka and whoever perform the procession or pallaki seva to Dattamaharaj, he will grant 'ASHTA SIDDAS' to his devotees. The vratha is very famous and it was popularised in the world by Sri Sri Sri Ganapathi sachidananda swamyji of Mysore. The vratha contains 3 stories. The Anagha matha, Anagha deva (dattatreya) have to aavaahan in the Kalasa with other 8 kalasas (ashta kalasa) and perform pranaprathishta. After that, we have to perform all the puja, ashtothara and have to read 3 vratha kathas. "Panchakajjaya" nivedan is must (a combination of chopped dry coconut, sugar, dryfruits etc) for this anaghavratha. At the end of the vratha, every devotee have to wear the THORA ( a 3 strings combination with the colours of red, green and white). The thora will protect the devotees from any bad incidents and Lord datta will bless his devotees whoever perform this vratha. Karthaveeryarjuna was declared as a must to perform this vratha in those days for the people of his kingdom. He ruled the kingdom for somany thousands of years with the grace of datta bhagwan. This year, this anaghaashtami is fallen on the day of Saturday i.e, 24.12.2005. So, I request all the members of the group to perform the vratha in their homes and have the blessings of Lord Dattatreya.
