Bigoted Pundit: It has been said that eclipses are no good. You

should not eat now.

(At the moment Aya just finished eating)

Aya: Why is that so?

Bigot: Don't you know the sashtras, they close the temples during the

eclipses. There is even prohibition in eating.

Aya: Where is such nonsense as these? Such sashtras are written by

fools who didn't understand the truth. Its just like those books

written long ago by ignorant men about the existence of fairy beings

and the world being flat.

Bigot: They say tamas increases during eclipses.

Aya: Do you know something?

Bigot: What is that?

Aya: That you are a fool.

Bigot: Why do you call me such, I am no fool.

Aya: No, you are.

Bigot: Why do you say such things? I will leave if you talk like this.

Aya: Then you better leave.

(Bigoted pundit leaves)

Bhakta: Oooh...the man has left. (Pauses) Is there no truth in what

he says?

Aya: You mean the bad effect of eclipses?

Bhakta: Yes.

Aya: Okay, tell me, what happens during an eclipse?

Bhakta: Well if its the eclipse of the moon, the light of the moon is

blocked temporarily.

Aya: Why is it so?

Bhakta: It is due to the orbits. The earth comes between for a while.

Likewise in the eclipse of the sun, the moon comes in between.

Aya: So in effect it is the light of the sun and the reflected light

of the moon which gets blocked for a while during eclipses, isn't

this so?

Bhakta: Yes.

Aya: Look. Even during no moon (amavasai), there is no light of the

moon. Or when there is heavy rain and clouds, the moon still gets

obstructed, is this not so?

Bhakta: Yes.

Aya: If you go into a closed tight building, likewise the rays of the

moon will not reach you, is this not true?

Bhakta: Yes.

Aya: Likewise too, the light of the sun is non existent at night. It

too gets blocked with clouds and through other means. What I am

implying is there are also other times where there is an absence of

light from the sun and moon. Hence it is just like the eclipse.

Bhakta: Yeah...I guess so.

Aya: So what is the point of the ill omen in eclipses? It is truly

absurd. Now think. At this time they also close the temple, is this

not so?

Bhakta: Yes.

Aya: Is it the Iraivan which has created the sun and the moon or the

other way round?

Bhakta: It is the Iraivan which has created.

Aya: Hence these created things have an end. They are jadam only. As

such how could they reduce the unlimited power of Iraivan by being in

a particular position? This is just a natural consequence due to

their pathways in orbit. By using the god given buddhi man can

definitely understand and predict these eclipses, is this not true?

Bhakta: Yes, it is true.

Aya: Hence the Iraivan for sure will not become powerless or polluted

by such paltry happenings. So why does one need to close the temples?

Bhakta: Okay, I agree. But why did such observances came into place?

Surely it wouldn't have arose just whimsically. There must be some

explanation.

Aya: The explanation is that the people have forgotten the real

symbolism as taught by the siddhars. Hence the people not

understanding the real significance observe such foolishness.

Overtime the true import of these symbols have been forgotten and

today people blindly follow such stupid observances.

Bhakta: What is the true inner significance then?

Aya: Listen. The atma is depicted as the sun. It is the one which

gives the sense of " I " . Even from birth to birth where one can't

remember the past, the " I " remains same only. It is the same " I "

which is present from young till old. Even when one dreams, the

subject " I " is the same only. After the dreamless deep sleep, it is

the " I " which reminiscences the pleasant deep sleep. It

thinks, " aah...I've slept well " . Without the " I " the mind by which

one knows this and that is meaningless. The mind is the moon. It

moves here and there. One is sad, happy, dejected or any mood due to

the mind. Likewise it thinks this and that. It waxes and wanes. It is

the one which has duality. Hence it differentiates of light and

darkness, good and bad, ugly and beauty and so on. When the mind

aspires it blooms, achieving the object it is happy like the full

moon, soon it wanes when the thing is lost. It is through the mind

the jivatma is bound to the world and goes through different births.

One does good and bad according to one's mind. Hence one is born,

grows (waxes),becomes mature like the full moon and finally grows old

(wanes) and dies getting extinguished like no moon.

The mind gets its light from the sun (atma) only. It is the merger of

this mind (moon) and atma (sun) which is depicted as atma jnanam. It

gives liberation, mukthi and unbounded happiness. Thereafter one is

liberated from Mayai. This can only happen when the atma and manam

(mind) merges into OM. The OM is the rudrakshra and the Kundalini.

Right now the jivatma is in Mayai. Hence it runs after happiness of

sense objects. It becomes lustful, selfish and self centred. Finally

with death it forgets everything and is reborn. It is due to this

also the state of mukthi is depicted as the full moon where the light

of the sun shines without any obstructons. Likewise the dawn of

jnanam is depicted as the rising sun. Now both this atma and manam is

in Mayai. It is the veil. In truth the atma and manam is non

different. The atma is the Shivan and the manam is the Shakti. Both

has to be united in OM and thereafter will never be separated. If not

one will be subjected to Mayai and appear to be separated. With

death, one loses recount of whatever memory, learning and treasure in

the mind. Then one relearns everything with rebirth and gets attached

to new relatives and friends.

So understand this thing. It is the Sun which is the Atma. It is the

Haran and Shivan. The Moon is the manam. It is the Hari and Sakthi.

Hence only the uniting of Hari and Haran is the state of Mukthi. It

is the Ayappan and also Murugan. For Murugan is Haro Haran only. Now

they corrupt this and call " Aro-gara " .

That which is the cause of eclipse is the Rahu. It is the human head

with the snake body. The snake is the Kundalini. The jivatma which is

in Mayai can only reach the moolam (base) of this Kundalini

effortlessly. This happens in deep sleep. It gets joy there. But it

doesn't understand the nature of this joy. And it will get angry if

deprived of this sleep. So the shakti abiding in this moolam is known

as moo-devi. When it shines forward and awakes its known as Shri

devi. So the jivatma in Mayai is a being who is still at the base of

the OM (Kundalini). It has not scaled up this OM and reached the

summit. The top of the hill is likened to the Sahasaram. To reach

here is the goal. It is here that one realizes the nature of atma and

Iraivan fully. The jivatma in Mayai like Rahu is attached to the

world through sex and passions only. Now when one closes the eyes one

is in darkness only. Has one tasted mukthi? So understand that one is

in the eclipse and hence one has not realized Iraivan in the temple

which is the body.

Bhakta: Hah..that is why the temple is built symbolizing the body.

Aya: So understand this thing. Right now the jivatma is in Mayai

only. It is the true eclipse. It prevents the joining of Atma (Sun)

and Manam (Moon). Then where will the moon (manam) reflect the

unsullied light of the sun (atman)? It will be darkness only inside.

As such we need the shakti from jadam only to see, think and be

active. Hence without the eyes and light from outside non can see.

Without the brain none can think and without the sense organs none

can perceive. Without food, air and water (jadam) all will die only.

Hence through Rahu one become Kethu. For Kethu is the snake head and

human body. Hence without knowing the Sindhu (top of head =

sahasaram) in which there is the nectar of immortality one becomes

attached to the gross physical body. These are the symbolizations of

Rahu and Kethu. So through these passions and attachments one remains

in darkness and does not realize the Iraivan in this body (temple).

But this is only a temporary darkness. Eclipses will definitely end.

Only one needs to do effort of gaining atma jnanam and move this

movable obstruction away.

So understand that the fools without understanding what is meant

simply observe such nonsense and close the temple. What will be

achieved by closing the temple? Will God not exist then? What is the

need to be afraid of eclipses? Can't we light the darkness with

torches? Rather one should ponder the real symbolization and clear

the darkness of Mayai in the real temple which is the body proper.

For the outside temple is built resembling this body only. With the

help of the gross fleshy body one can realize the Iraivan. This is

the meaning.

Without doing this and simply following stupid rituals and

observances one will be in darkness only. One can only simply imagine

about God and simply feel elated for a while. Soon one will again be

bitten by passions and will only get endless confusions listening to

others.
