WHAT IS DIKSHA?

 

The formal process of entering the systematic spiritual path of

Sanatana Dharma is known in the Sanskrit language as " Diksha " , or

spiritual initiation. The ancient process of Diksha initiation is

considered to be of crucial importance throughout the entire Vedic

tradition as one enters a more serious and disciplined course of

practice of Dharma spirituality. Through undergoing the ancient Vedic

ceremony of Diksha, one openly embarks on the path of Yoga,

meditation, and spiritual practice under the skilled tutelage of a

recognized Guru, or Spiritual Teacher. In addition, the Diksha

process signifies one's acknowledged welcoming into the family of the

great tradition of Sanatana Dharma.

 

On Saturday, May 31st, from 3-5 PM, Sri Dharma Pravartaka Acharya, the

Resident Spiritual Preceptor (Acharya) of the Hindu Temple of

Nebraska, will be conducting a large public Diksha initiation ceremony

designed to both accept formal shishyas (students), and as an

historical welcoming ceremony of several dozen Americans to their path

of Sanatana Dharma. This will be the very first time in history that

a welcoming ceremony to Hinduism of this size and significance will

have ever been publicly performed.

 

This sacred Hindu ceremony will take place in the temple room of the

Hindu Temple of Nebraska before God and the presence of the Devas and

Devis.

To be considered as a possible shishya and candidate for this

Candidates for Diksha initiation must observe the following requirements:

 

• Acceptance of the philosophical principles of Dharma.

 

• Strict vegetarianism.

 

• Following the Yamas & Niyamas of the Yoga system.

 

• Acceptance of the Vedic scriptures as your spiritual guide.

 

• Belief in the principles of karma/reincarnation.

 

• Sincerity, humility, and a willingness to practice the path of

Dharma under the guidance of a qualified Guru.
