My Pranams to all.

I want to arrange pooja at our home for Durga saptashati/Chandipath,may I

request members to guide me on..

*Any good source of link to download mp3 version for above?

*In which order one should recite Durga saptashati/Chandipath?Ex.there are many

chapters in Chandipath and different books tell different sequence to recite

Argala,Kilak etc..

*I am not dikshit(no blessings from any guru I have) hence priests will perform

this pooja at our home hence I want to make sure that they adopt correct rituals

so I am posting this message here to take guidelines from learned members of

this group.

thank you so much in advance.

They are many correct ways of performing this.

Since the purohita-s will be performing the ritual, it is best to let them

follow the procedure that they learnt.

Devi Mahatmyam by S Prakash Kaushik is good. There could be others which are

equally good or better. Unsure if it is available for free on web.

Namaste:

Following link provides procedures for performing Homam for different gods,

including Chandi Homam.

http://www.vedicastrologer.org/homam/index.htm

If you have any doubts then you can search the archives in the following

or post your questions on the group. Many members there are

doing Homam on daily basis, I am sure they would be able to guide you. It

has abundant discussions on Chandi Homam and Homam in general.

Jai Mata Di

Please note the sequence -

1. Sri Chandi Kavach

2. Sri Argala Stotram

3. Sri Keelak Stotram

4. Sri Ratri Suktam

5. Navarna Mantra - 1 Mala

6.Shaap Vimochan Mantra - as given in the Sri Saptashati

7. Commencement of Sri Devi Mahatmayam

8. Sri Devi Suktam

9. Sri Kshama Stotram

Also note: you DO NOT diksha to perform this. Maata Rani blesses all her

children with equal compassion. You DO need purity of thoughts and love for her

creations.

Of course feel free to get someone else do it for you if you are not conversant

with the recitation yourself.

Cheers

Raj

Thank you very much Ramakanta/Raj for detailed info on Shri Durga Saptasati, why

I specially put question here because there are many methods to recite

Chandipath.Someone says start with the shaap vimochana mantra and some says to

start with Kavacham(ex.learned members like you)hence there was a confusion

which now eased up a bit.

When we say something let it be based on some text or tradition, instead of

making un-informed pronouncements.

It is common knowledge by now that one needs to be initiated into the chaNDI

mantra properly to be able to follow this procedure.

To study the saptashati to understand and enjoy it or to recite stotra-s from

it, one doesn't need any initiation. But to recite it in a specific procedure

like the one outlined, one definitely needs dIkSha from a teacher.

What is the basis for this? Plenty of works on this subject, including human

authored manuals, divinely revealed tantra-s etc etc and of-course ratified by

living traditions.

Purity of thought and compassion for beings: certainly all sAdhaka-s will

cultivate these to some extent..but this doesn't automatically grant

adhikAra(right) to say all mantra-s.

Hi there

If homam is performed in Tamil Nadu presided by vedic Pundits, they also follow

the appropriate sutra such as aapastambha, bodhaayana etc., start the homam with

agnimukham, end it with jayaadi homam etc. In Northern India, aapastambha or

other sutras are not being followed in the practice of homam.

Homam is preceded by paaraayanam.

Hence it is best to allow the priests to follow the particular sampradaya that

they actually practice.

It is also a general condition that even for paaraayanam, either saptashati or

navaakshari should have been received from a guru. Priests who perform chandi

homam would generally have received either or both from their gurus.

I tend to agree with Satish. If purity of thought and devotion to Devi are the

only criteria, one can recite Saptashloki, Chakraadaya stotram etc., from

Saptashati. Doing paaraayana and homam is best left to adepts. Homam falls in

the category of shrauta and smaarta karma with specific appurtenances and

adjuncts. Procedure for doing this may differ from region to region depending

upon the sampradaya/ lineage etc.

Chandi homam is a very powerful procedure. What should be given as aahuti is

alos to be carefully observed.

I am nobody to advise anyone in these matters as I consider myself an Ignoramus

compared to experts available in this forum most of whom are observing studied

silence. These are just my thoughts as one brought up in a spercific tradition.
