Respected Members,

Greetings. I am sorry I was off-the-group for quite some time. May I request the

erudite members of the group with any information they may have on the following

- which are related to Sahasranamas.

I am actively collecting Ashtottarams and Sahasranamams of various deities -

including Shakti (I may have around 40-50 of them). Though it is my wish to make

different compilations and make them available for general use free as ebooks

(similar to the Gayatri worship I posted in this group a few years ago), paucity

of time has made it difficult. Nevertheless, I have been working on bringing the

first compilation of about 20 different Vishnu Sahasranama Stotras (plus about

10 Sahasranamas on Vishnu's consorts) - hopeuflly I will be able to release in

this 2010.

1. Apparently there is a Sahasranama for Savithri - I remember having read

Harsha's posting where she mentioned that Pudukkottai Judge Swamigal used to

chant this during mid-day. I have enquired about this with various scholars

including publishes but unable to get any clue. I even wrote to the website of

Pudukkottai Bhuvaneshwari Peetham.

2. I also heard that there is a Pancha Sahasranama Stotram for Gayatri but

unable to get any clue. There is one Telugu publication from Hyderabad from

Sankhyayana Publications but not sure of its origin.

3. Apparently there seems to be a Kalabhairava Sahasranama composed by Sage

Durvasa. Does any one in which purana/upapurana/kalpa/yamala/tantrai this is

available?

4. I also read somewhere that there is another rare Sahasranama on Lord Shiva

titled " Paramashiva Sahasranama " - which is said to be the only available part

of one of the yamala tantras. Does any one know where I can get a copy of it?

5. I also remember Sri. Satish's message sometime back that there is another

rare combined Sahasranama on Shiva/Parvati " Bhuvana Mangala Maha Stotram " in

Rudra Yamala (similar to the Radha Krishnan Sahasranama from Narada

Pancharatram). I have Uttara Khand of Rudra Yamala but this is not to be found.

Any idea where this can be gleaned?

[i recently purchased two volumes of Devi Sahasranama Stotra Sangrah which

contain very rare Devi Sahasranamas many of which are said to be from Rudra

Yamala. I don't know whether these are from Purva Khand which is not in print.

Does any one know whether it is possible to get Purva Khand?]

6. I would appreciate if you can educate me on any other rare

Ashtottarams/Sahasranamas which I am not aware of. Unfortunately, I am finding

it very difficult to get information - in spite of me contacting some of the

authors from various prominent publishers. To cite an example, I chanced upon a

rare Vittala Ashtottaram said to be from Padma Puranam whose opening shloka goes

like this:

shrutvA nAma sahasrame me viTTalasya mahAnvitam |

which means that the previous chapter should have contained Vittala

Sahasranamam. I could not locate both Ashtottaram and Sahasranamam in the Padma

Puran mula I purchased from MLBD.

Similarly, the Varaha Sahasranamam is said to be from Skanda Puranam but I am

not able to locate this in the 8-volume 81000 shloka set I purchased from

Chowkhamba. But I got this in Tamil from a Lifco publication. I have been

searching for Dhanvantari and Satyanarayana Sahasranama Stotras for the past 5

years without much success.

Any information in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,

Murali

Dear all,

Namaste and thanks for the inputs.

1. As I mentioned, I could not get any help from any publishers - be it Gita

press or Parimal Publications or Chowkhamba. Perhaps they focus only on

publishing and not necessarily the contents.

The Vittala Ashtottaram was in one of Gita Press' publicationss " Shata Nama

Stotra Sangrah " and I wrote to the highest officials about the contents but they

were not able to help. I even requested them to introduce me to the author(s) of

the collection but I could not get any help in this regard.

Similarly, I wrote to Chowkhamba about Varaha Sahasranamam from Skanda Puran but

they replied that they don't have any knowledge of this.

2. With respect to Lord Shiva:

a. I heard that there is an Arunachala Sahasranama - but where is it available?

b. Are you aware of any other similar khshetra oriented Sahasranamas such as

Vishwanatha, Mallikarjuna, etc.?

3. With respect to Trishatis - I have a few (as below) but I don't have any

shakti trishatis. I remember to have seen a book in Giri Trading a couple of

years back on Trishatis which contained some rare Trishatis but I missed buying

it.

a. Maha Ganapathi Trishati

b. Subrahmanya Trishati

c. Shatru Samhara Trishati (Subrahmanya)

d. Dakshinamurthy Trishati

e. Lalita Trishati

Thanks & Regards,

Murali

with Sat mukha sahasranama( a sahasranama for each of the six mukhas) is found

in Subrahmanya-stuti-manjari. It is available in Jayalakshmi.

Just curious

As it was mentioned

kumari sahasranama is it related to Bala Tripura sundari ?

Because Bala Sahasra nama is also available.

Shodasi sahasranama I had the privilage of seeing 2 Versions Of them

1. Mahatripura sundari Mantragarbha rahasya stotra (Rudrya yamala)

2. soubhagya shodasi Rajarajeswari Stotra (Vamakeswara Tantra)

Dakshinamurthy Sahasranama

1. Dakshinamoorty sahasranama (Dakshinamurthy samhita)

along with it there are two more versions

Bhairava sahasranama

On observation here is that there is one version of sahasranama which I read and

it was applied to both Vatuka Bhairava and Kala Bhairava (when i say " applied "

it means only the Devata was changing in the rishi nyasa).

Dear Sri. Raghavender,

Greetings. I am so glad to know about many of the following sahasranamas and I

would love to collect them. Please let me know how.

Of the list you have given below:

1. I have two versions of Mahaganapathy Sahasranamas and I have seen one of them

being referred to as Vakratunda Mahaganapathy Sahasranama in Mantra Maharnava. I

am not sure whether the one you are referring to is same as the one I got.

2. I also have Ucchishta Ganapathy Sahasranama but the other ones you are

referring to are not with me nor I have heard of them.

3. Is the Mookambia Sahasranma from Skanda Purana - if yes, I have it.

4. Rudra Trishati - is it the same as the names that come in Camakam?

5. I have Annapoorna Sahasranama - unless there is another version.

I would really love to get the others - please let me know.

Thanks & Regards,

Murali

Dear Sri. Diwakar,

Greetings.

1. No - I have both Kumari Sahasranama and Bala Tripura Sundari Sahasranama

2. Is it possible you could share with me Soubhagya Shoadsi Sahasranama? The one

I have is from Rudra Yamala.

3. I have one Dakshinamurthy Sahasranama - but not sure of the origin. Do you

know where I can get Dakshinamurthy Samhita?

Thanks & Regards,

Murali

Dear Sri. Shangaranarayanan,

Greetings. I had seen one 10,000 namavali of Lord Shiva published by Sri

Bharadwaja Swamigal - is it the same or is there another version?

Thanks & Regards,

Murali

Dear All,

Greetings. With respect to Mahaganapathy:

1. I have two general Mahaganapthy Sahasranamas (one of which is

sometimes called as Vakratunda Mahaganapathy Sahasranama) and one

gakArAdi Sahasranama (where all namas start with syllable ga). I have

two Vinayaka Ashtottarms and one Mantraksharavali Trishati.

2. Of the 16 Mahaganapathy forms (Shodasha Mahaganapathy), I have a

Sahasranama for Ucchishta Mahaganapathy. Are there Sahasranamas,

Trishatis or Ashtottaras for other forms?

Thanks & Regards,

Murali

Dear All,

Namaste. Continuing the above topic, I wanted to enquire about some

unusual Sahasranamas.

1. For Lord Shiva, a dasha sahasranamavali (10,000 namas) is a very

unusual one and I am given to understand that it is only available in

Namavali form.

2. There is a very unusual 1,800 nama (Ashtadasha Shata Nama) Stotra for

Radha Devi in Krishna Yamala. This is in addition to the Radhika

Sahasranama found in Narada Pancharatram which is a regular Sahasranama

3. I am told there is a Pancha Sahasranama Stotra (5000 names) for Mata

Gayatri - which I am yet to get.

4. In Narada Pancharatra, there is a rare Radha Krishna Sahasranama

where 500 namas are pertaining to Radha and the other 500 to Lord

Krishna. I presume there is a similar one for Shiva and Parvati

(Ardhanareeshwara?)

5. In Garga Samhita, a unique version of Krishna Sahasranama is found

(the usual one is from Vishnu Dharmottara puran) where the meter is

quite different from all other Sahasrnamas I have seen so far.

Are you aware of any other such unique ones?

Other Sahasranamas

1. Like Siddhi/Buddhi for Lord Ganapathy, are there similar Sahasranamas

for Valli/Devasena/Shasti Devi? I have only come across 2-sets of

Ashtottaram for Valli and Devasena.

2. Though there are several Sahasranamas for Durga, do separate

Sahasranamas exist for various Durga forms - especially Nava Durga. I

have Ashtottaram.

3. Are there separate Ashtottarams for various forms of Bhairava and/or

Sahasranamas? or Trishatis?

4. Are there separate Ashtottarams/Trishatis/Sahasranamas for various

forms of Dakshinamurthy apart from Dakshinamurthy and Medha

Dakshinamurthy?

Thanks & Regards,

Murali

Dear Murali,

If you need I can send you a copy of the printed sri sambasadasiva ayutha

namavali in sanskrit/tamil published by me in 2003.

On the other sahasranamas, if you can copy them in a CD and send it to me, i can

think of ways and means to republish them in one book, containing all

sahasranamas and trisathis. Is this feasible.

I am having a sahasranama

Sampathkari (or) Aswaroota -

I don't know clearly.

Will this be of any help to you

K GANESH

Murali
