Guest guest
I started with Ashtanga Yoga - Introductory Poses - Master the Essentials (2003) Starring: Nicki Doane and I really liked it. It goes really slow through the sun solutes and standing poses and gets you ready for classes or more advanced DVDs. The first class I went to was secondary series and I was so sore after it that I had trouble walking. So I worked with this DVD for a month to be ready to go back. Guest guest
I recommend going to a studio and studying under a teacher. Mainly so you don't injure yourself. But there is only so much about the postures and tricks to targeting the right areas for proper alignment that can be explained in writing. You need a teacher to adjust you and teach you the proper technique. Books are excellent adjunct learning tools, but should not be used as practice guides. The book " yoga mala " discusses and overviews the history and principles. And the Lino Miele book " astanga yoga " has an excellent breakdown on the breathe and movement counts and patterns for each pose. That is my 2 cents.
