Guest guest Report post Posted December 13, 2008 Sat Nam, I've never used already-prepared oat milk, but I've often made my own oatmeal water. It's very soothing to the upset stomach. It's the first food I recommend people ingest after a period of being sick has left them feeling weak and debilitated, especially if the sickness has involved stomach upsets or loss of appetite. Use finely flaked oats [quick oats]. Put 2 teaspoons in a pan with a quart of water. You can make it stronger or weaker to suit your taste [my personal preference is 1/4 cup of oatmeal in 1 quart of water]. Put it on the stove and let it simmer for 30 minutes. Then beat it with a spoon or eggbeater and strain it through a fine sieve. If desired, you can add just a pinch of salt and a little unsweetened soymilk. This recipe is from the classic " Back to Eden " by Jethro Kloss, which has been my " medical " reference book for almost 30 years. Chock-full of herbal and food information; recipes for teas, tinctures, poultices -- alot of knowledge that was once much more common, now lost to varying degrees to the onslaught of medical experts and their " expertise " . A great reference book for anyone interested in becoming more involved in their own self- and health-care. Guest guest Report post Posted December 14, 2008 What I have done with oats, not the quick cooking kind, but the least processed I can find, is to put them in the blender, pulverized them and mixed this powder in my bath. The particles of oats stay fairly well suspended in the water, not glumping up at all. The oat mild product has some ingredients other than oats and water most likely to allow the fluid to retain its milky appearance. I will try a batch of homemade and let you know the outcome.
